Rec Your Baby Gate

I'm looking for a baby gate that does not require it to be mounted into the wall with a screw that would put a hole in the doorway. We live in an older home with a lot of original woodwork and I don't want anything that will leave a hole in the doorway.  If you have one you like or know of a good one, please let me know.

TIA!

Re: Rec Your Baby Gate

  • If you are looking for a gate at the top of the stairs, hardware mounting is the only safe option. Tension gates are not designed for top of stair use because they can give under the force of climbing or pushing and cause the child to fall down the stairs.  If you need a gate for bottom of the stairs or halls, your middle of the road tension gate is fine.

That said, there are some options where you don't have damage the woodwork. There are clamps and installation kits available that build a frame around existing banisters and such, but that would depend on what your particular situation might be.

  • We have a tension mounted one (Kidco is the manufacturer) for our LO's nursery doorway.  As PP said, tension mounted ones are not safe for top of the stairs.
