Quick converting bed question

We have her toddler bed set up for the first try tonight. Do I just make her stay in her room or make he stay in bed?
What if she gets up to play with her toys in her room? Do I go in there and put her back in bed or leave her be as long as she's in her room?

Thanks!!

Re: Quick converting bed question

  • It's up to you.  Figure out what you're rule is, and stick with it.  I don't think there is a right or wrong answer, generally, on this one.  But there may be an answer that you feel is better or not for YOUR child.  (Also, pick a rule that you can enforce.  The rule of "you must keep your eyes closed" isn't terribly enforceable, for instance.)

  • Thanks ladies. I know the problem will eventually come up, but I was super nervous for nothing tonight. She looked around confused, talked to herself for a little while and then went to sleep.
I know it won't always go this smooth, but for a first night I'm pretty happy!

  • Personally, I enforce staying in the room, because my son couldn't open the door when we moved him over. If I had insisted on staying in the bed, I would have constantly been in there fixing it, which reinforces to me, "if I get our of bed, mommy comes back," which was not what I wanted to do. However, if he was out of bed for more than 15-20 minutes without settling down then I would go put him back in bed - but I made a point of not saying anything when I did it. As for the toys, I picked up all the toys and stored them in the child-proofed closet, so toys weren't an option. There were some mornings when I caught him sleeping in the rocker or on the floor, but those were rare and stopped after the first few weeks.

All and all, that decision made for a good experience with me. GL with whatever works best for you and DD!

  • I make DS stay in his bed.  If I put him in bed and he tries to get up I tell him that it's bedtime and that he needs to stay in his bed.  He was actually a lot better about it than I thought he was going to be.  Now he doesn't even get out of bed until I come in and get him!
