Day care moms

Hi All!

Just wondering if when you pick up your baby from daycare, do they cry when you get there to pick them up? Wesley started daycare about 2 weeks ago full-time and he loves it, he goes to the teachers in the morning, with no problem, he is fine when I call and check-in on him, he is smiling and laughing and playing when I look in the window before going into the room to pick him up but when he sees me he starts crying.  He stops about 5 minutes later after I have picked him up and held him for a bit.  I think he is crying because he missed me and is happy to see me, but it still makes me sad.  When does this stop? or does it never stop?

  • Thanks Ladies! This makes me feel better knowing that I'm not the only one. My H thinks I'm crazy over this, but I'm happy that once again the ladies on the bump helped me prove him wrong.

I think men are wired differently when it comes to some things.  I tried to tell my husband that while I'm happy K likes her nanny, sometimes I get kind of sad/jealous that K is so happy to see her nanny in the morning.  He said, "I'm just glad she likes her.  I know she loves me more."  It is that simple for him.  He doesn't cry at work over stuff like this, even though he loves her as much as I do.

I think your right about them being wired differently.  I cried every day on my way to work the first week after dropping him off at daycare and my husband would call me everyday and asked if I cried after drop off today. he just doesn't get it. I still get the phone call every morning from him, and we have been using daycare for about 2 weeks now. I'm hoping my son is not like that one day but I'm sure he will be.

  • J never cries at drop off or pickup (YET I suppose), but she has started reaching for our DCP in the mornings and that makes me feel bad, lol.

I am like a man though in that other than the first day I dropped her off, I have never cried about J at work. Pumping is the main time I think about her unless she was being extra cute that morning.

  • Dd does this. If I am ever away from her for any length of time, even if its 20 minutes to shower and get dressed and then come back. I've always chalked it up to wanting to nurse if I'm gone and return but maybe it's more than that....

Ds gets mad sometimes when I pick him up and it's because he's having fun and legitimately doesn't want to leave. It hurts sometimes but really, i am glad he's happy while I'm away!

  • When I do nursery at church, a lot of this kids do this.  I have no idea when it stops, but I know there are a couple 2 years old that do it still.

Yes my dd does it for me and my dh when we pick her up. It makes me feel like she's unhappy there :(
