Blended Families

ugh BM, really

the kids are on vacation with their bm and her family.  note, we have full custody, she has limited visitation.  we find out that SD13 (who has lots of issues that resulted in mental hospital admittance and lots of therapy, anti depressants etc) was caught drinking!  her aunt (bm sister) bought it for her, but bm lets her take sips of her drinks all the time

the only good thing is that SD told us herself and didn't lie, which is a big thing.  but really BM, you think confining her to her hotel room is the best punishment?

and BM had the nerve to text DH and say he is "a fool if he doesn't support" the punishment.   ugh, the kid needs her mother to step up and be a freaking mother, but I am just spinning my wheels, there is a reason why a judge deemed me the better mother and gave us full custody.

vent over

  • Whoa. Super inappropriate. Also, is your step child still on anti depressants? I'd really like to think that BM is smart enough to know that alcohol and meds don't mix

  • The aunt bought a 13-year-old alcohol? I'd file a complaint with the police.

  • I'd be a lot more pissed at the Aunt than at BM. BM found out and punished her, maybe not in the way you would have punished her but at least it sounds like she isn't condoning what happend.
  • yes she is still on anti depressants, so yes alcohol is a huge no no

this child was hospitalized for suicidal thoughts and cutting, leaving her unsupervised for long periods of time are NOT a good idea and BM was in the session where the therapist told us just that.  the child needs less alone time, not more!

as for filing a police report, in our state, underage consumption of alcohol is allowed with parental consent as long as it is at home

     (c) The prohibitions contained in paragraphs (1), (2), and (4) of subsection (a) of this Code section
shall not apply with respect to the possession of alcoholic beverages for consumption by a person
under 21 years of age when the parent or guardian of the person under 21 years of age gives the alcoholic beverage to the person and when possession is in the home of the parent or guardian and such parent or guardian is present.

the aunt technically provided the alcohol to HER 16 year old daughter, who then shared with our 13 yo SD.  will be pretty hard to go after her :(

I guess you missed where I posted that BM also allows SD to "sip" her drinks on a regular basis
