You'd think that having an oversupply of breastmilk would be a good thing, but it's not. I've been block feeding in 2 hour blocks for two days but I'm thinking I need to try 3 hour blocks. I've been reclining when nursing and she still coughs at letdown. She had a couple screaming fits yesterday that broke my heart. She will give her hunger cues, but then reject the breast when I offer. Normally she takes it, even if she just wants to use me as a pacifier. She won't take bottles so I can't feed her that way. I'm having a hard time figuring out if this is the 6 week growth spurt, or if she is too stressed out by the over active letdown to eat, or what. I am horribly engorged and concerned about getting clogged ducts or mastitis, but don't want to pump and encourage the oversupply.
Anyone else ever deal with oversupply and block feeding? How long do you block feed before noticing a difference? Will it stay this way or even out?
ETA I tried cross posting to the BFing board and it said the moderator has configured the board to not allow duplicate posts. WTH??
Another ETA I tried again and it worked.

Re: oversupply and OALD
My biggest problem last night was that LO slept almost 5 hrs, then only ate on one side and went back to sleep for 3 hrs. 8 hrs for my one side was way too long!

I had an oversupply issue with DS and DD1. I never knew that having oversupply could make babies also exhibit reflux and lactose issues. kellymom.com really helped me try different things that worked. I did block feeding with DD1 and it really helped. if I remember I just nursed on that one side until it was completely empty...not by time. Then I would switch to the other side for the following feedings and do the same. It was uncomfortable (the side not being used) but that is what makes you ultimately produce less. I started the same routine with DD2 right away and it never got really bad this time. I still only feed on one side per feeding...and if she wants to eat again fairly soon I will nurse on the same side (if she didnt empty before).
Hope you can get it under control...like undersupply, oversupply comes with its own set of issues!!
