age adjusting and solids/feeding

My pediatriatian said at our 7 month, ageadjusted or almost 10 months checkup that we should be feeding more solids than we had been.

We were doing 2 meals a day at about 2 to 3 tablespoons plus bottles throughout the day, our LOs were eating between 800 and 1000ml a day, which the pediatrician said was too much, she said about 700 to 800 ml/day, if I remember correctly.

Fast forward a month and now my LOs are taking 1 jar or 8 tablespoons per meal with 2 tablespoons of cereal mixed in. However, my concern is that one of my LOs is loving solids so much and is eating more and more with each meal but is now barely getting over 600ml/day of formula

Is this too low? Should I be changing anything I am doing? Should I be going with real age or age adjusted?right now they are one week away from being 11 months from birth or 8 months age corrected. Thanks.

Re: age adjusting and solids/feeding

  • My twins are offered 32 ounces of formula a day 4 bottles but in sippy cups with their foods. My ped said that the formula provides all the nutrients and to get them used to sippy cups. Whether they drink it or not is up to them, but its encouraged. The final one we give in a bottle before bed. Their 12 month appt is coming up where she will tell me to reduce the formula and replace it with milk. I have tall kids, my son has been wearing size 2T for 4 months, they would be starved without the formula. I would call your ped and ask. That is what I did.

  • We did BLW and offered just one meal a day plus a few snacks [generally puffs] until they were 12m actual. We then began offering three meals plus snacks. At 15m actual, 12m adjusted, they are now completely on solids and WCM from straw sippies. IMO, unless there is a medical concern, feeding is a parental issue not a medical one. Trust your gut and led the babies lead.
