Help!! if your LO is in big boy/girl bed...

Need support/advice!   We had to take the crib down last week since DD discovered she  could climb out.  Crib mattress is on the floor for now until the twin mattress arrives next week.   The last 3 nights it's taken an hour to get her to fall asleep.

She seems really wired and just want  to run around her room, read books from HE  bookcase and not stay on the mattress.  When I leave the room she  cries bloody murder.  Screams and bangs on the door.  I tried just sitting on her floor facing the door but that didn't work.  After leaving and going  back every 5 minutes for an hour she finally fell asleep.

So my question is,what's your bedtime routine?  Did your LO go through anything like this at first?  I'm hoping when her twin mattress comes we can lay in bed and read books to help her unwind.

Should I continue with letting her cry it out until she realizes she needs to stay in bed?

I miss the crib!!!  Used to be able to put her in it awake every night and walk out her room no problems.

  • My LO also has the mattress on the floor,I put a gate on the bathroom door and on the room for him not to come out,I also keep the door of the closet open with the light on ( I keep the door tide,so he cannot close the door.) sometimes when he wake up at the middle of the nigth,he is wondering around for about 10 or 15 mn then he goes back to bed.

all what he does is playing in front of the mirrow  and talk to him sell,or he is just looking for his LO blanket.

At the beginning I just let him cry, after afew day he realize that I'm not going to put attention or wake up for him to play. I explains to him like a hundred time the night time is for people to sleep.

i also made sure he takes his nap around 11 am to 2 pm, and the rest of the day I just keep him busy, and before he goes to bed I made sure I give him a bath, the way he will be sleeping all nigth.

At first, we stayed with her until she fell asleep.  We could repeat a hundred times that it's time to sleep and we need to stay in bed.  Somtimes, she would cry and test us, but we didn't budge.  We had to make the switch because a new baby was coming, but she was so young! She didn't understand at all why she had to stay in bed.  It took a few weeks and now my 21 month-old is like a pro! But even now, she still calls our names before falling asleep.  I figured she just need some reassurance, so each time she does, I tell her something like : Mommy loves you very much, it's time to go to sleep, good night, see you tomorrow.

Oh, and besides a few stuffed animals, I make sure her room is pretty boring. There is no toys laying around.

    Good luck!
