We are leaving for vacation Saturday morning. Any tips or tricks to keeping a 5 month old entertained for a long car ride... I'm hoping she will sleep most of the time but I don't thinK I can count on that...
First off, you have to stop often to let your baby stretch a bit. For a two hour ride, we stop after an hour for about half an hour. Babies, and children for that matter, shouldn't be in their car seats for several hours at a time. It's logical, but many people overlook it.
Second, there are many toys aimed at car seats and strollers that could entertain your baby, but one thing I found worked is having someone sitting with them in the backseat. If that's a possibility, you should go for it!
We just got back from a 12 Hour road trip split up between 2 days and it wasn't that bad. Just be prepared to make more stops. What worked for us was I brought every toy she owns, sat in the back seat with her, and brought some of her favorite music. She slept a good portion of the time and overall it was a major success. Hope this helps! Have fun! :
My baby hates the car and often screams his head off after 15 minutes. One thing that has helped us was bringing his sleep giraffe (the Cloud B one)... it plays white noise. When he is super fussy and I can tell he is tired but isn't nodding off, I pull down the canopy of his carseat and put the giraffe inside playing white noise. He's not much of a pacifier baby, but sometimes if he is super fussy I hold a pacifier in his mouth or let him suck on my knuckle. I'm careful not to let him see my face. This usually helps him fall asleep for a little while.
