So I got my ultrasound photos at 6 weeks. I was so excited, baby's first photo and all even if it didn't look like much more than a circle and a line, it was still my little one growing and thriving right on schedule.
So you know how those ultra sound photos are really flimsy? Well I had a "brilliant" idea to save that photo. I called up a friend who has a laminator, we trimmed the photos down and voil......oh.....
So as it turns out ultra sound photos are flimsy like receipt paper because they basically are. Its heat sensitive paper and the laminating process, which uses heat, completely turned that precious photo into one black square.
I thought I would share this pearl of knowledge and here are alternative solutions for actually preserving that first photo.
1. Acid free photo sleeves.
2. Scan and keep it digital or reprint.
Do not:
1. Laminate
2. Use tape to be savvy
3. keep in light or regular plastic sleeves or in a wallet (unless its a re-print)
Hope this post can save one of you from my silly mishap.
Re: FYI for saving ultrasound photos
I figured I should since my first reaction was like "How come no one has ever told me! Ack!".
I do have a picture of it I sent to my close friend so all isn't lost and it was a 6 weeks photo so there will be more and I'm sure I can get copies from my doctor.
Yay I'm so glad this post definitely helped then
I'm not sure exactly about contact paper, I would just make sure whatever your using is acid free. Some glues apparently are bad and will (glues such as on contact or no heat lamination) can damage the pic.
After my last run in with silly my plan of action is
-make a copy
- place original in an archival sleeve
