My LO just turned 6 months and has been like this the past few days. Very fussy, clingy, and her naps are crap. She is napping in her crib (thank goodness) but they are very short, which has been unlike her recently. Oh well...I'm sure she will be back to her old self soon.
There is the WonderWeek thing happening as well as the development of specific attachment, which is what PPs' pediatricians have referrred to as separation anxiety. Basically, between 6-9 months, babies develop a strong attachment to ONE person (usually mom, but it is the primary caregiver). Before his age, they have bonded but not developed what we consider real emotional attachment. Only after this first, specific attachment is developed can they increase the number of people they're attached to (which makes dad a lot happier). For some babies, it last the three months, other develop multiple attachments faster but just know that it is absolutely normal and expected. I have been prepping DH for this since before we got pregnant because DH is super-emotional and sensitive. The fussiness should decrease after the WonderWeek but the clinginess and preference might not.
We went through this at 5.5 months. Our Ped told us that DS was having separation anxiety and that it was time to sleep train. He cries for a bit when we put him down but his sleep has been so much better and it has changed our lives.
Yep, this is what our pedi said too. Separation anxiety. Joy!
