Rear facing Radian?

I have a Ford Taurus X which is a crossover/ station wagon, and we are trying to put our Diono Raxian RXT rear facing behind the drivers' side. I'm very short, so my seat leaves a lot of room in the back, and it's a very roomy back seat. However, this car seat doesn't seem to fit!! Does anyone have experience/insight? Are we doing it wrong, or does this seat really on fit rear facing in the middle? TIA!

Re: Rear facing Radian?

  • Mine fits well rear facing behind the passenger seat of my jeep compass. It sounds like you may need to use the diono angle adjuster which is extra. Supposedly it lifts the seat up higher and helps secure a proper angle while rear facing.

  • Hmmm...we had an Edge and a C-max and our Radian fits well even with the seat all the way back. The seat can brace against the car seats unlike most other carseats. I would ask for advice on car-seat.org. There are a lot of techs there that can help.

Actually, I'm pretty sure the car has to allow bracing too. (So double check)

It fits in our current model outback on the side.  The angle adjuster gave us a bunch more room so that should help.

  • I drive a Nissan Cube so similar to a hatchback in inside size I think. It cannot fit without the angle adjuster or it would be bracing. It only fit in the middle as Nissan does not allow bracing.

  • You can brace the Radian third row and go though the hatch, no airbag sensors there. I've gotten great installs in both rows of the Taurus X with the Radian, but second row does better with the angle adjuster. I actually quite like this car for installing seats, it's one of the easiest!
  • Sorry, you are correct. i was specifically tthinking of Ford...we've had 3 newer Fords and theyve all allowed bracing. inshould have mentioned that since i know some manufacturers like Toyota specifically disallow it.
