Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

15 month check up

Wow! He's a tall kid. 35 inches, 26 pounds, head 46cm. Had his shots, he's not pleased right now, but last round of shots at 18 months we were told. Yay! Feel so bad he had the specialist today, then pedi appointment. So, I took him to TCBY for some frozen greek yogurt. I think he forgives me.

Anyone else with a tall little guy out there? I'm only 5 ft. Tall, I fear he will hover above me by kindergarten and pat me on the head. I joke, but I do wonder.

  • Not counting annuals like flu, but at 18 months, last ipv, last hep, and there's one other I can't recall now. I have to check, but that's what the nurse said.

    Edited. Dtap was the third.

    Really?  For what vaccines?

Because kids get shots until they are 2 years old.  And then the flu shot annually.

I think it depends on the Pedi shot schedules and what they use, not all Pedi's use the combo vaccines.  I think it also depends on your insurance as to what scheule is followed and what shots are given.  We have to have a catch up at 18 months on one shot which we missed because our insurance doesnt cover the 9 month schedule our Pedi uses for medicaid patients..and one other due at 18.. then we have one shot at 2 years.  Our poor guy gets at least 4 each time so I for one am glad we're almost done.

Not counting the boosters that kids get throughout their lives... Adults need a Tdap booster every 10 years. (It's Dtap for kids and Tdap for adults).

So no, sorry, your LO isn't done with shots.

Oh, I love this site. What was meant by done with shots is the initial, every three months, 3 to 4 shots each time. Of course there will be more throughout the years. I am not and idiot but did make the assumption that it would be understood exactly what I meant.

Exactly. It depends on pedi, insurance and if you and your pedi so choose to stagger and spread out the timeframe of shots. I didn't think posting a simple yay about a 15 month check up would stir a debate. Geeze!

  • OP...back to talking about tall kids...my son is 13 mos and was 25lbs and 31inches tall at his 12-mo appt.  I am short (5'2") so I have also thought about him passing me in height at an early age:) my nephew is in fourth grade and is as tall as me!

It's so fun to get the stats and watch them grow!

  • Yup, my beast is 35 inches tall, almost 29 pounds and wears a size 7.5 shoe. My back has never been stronger! Everyone in our family is tall, though, (I'm 5'11 and daddy is 6'3, his dad is 6'4, mine is 6'9) so a big kid isn't a huge surprise but what DOES always surprise me is just how much taller he is than most kids his own age-- or a year older. He's always my peanut so he doesn't seem huge to me until I see him towering over a smaller kid.

Someone on one of the other boards I look at was talking about being nostalgic while putting away outgrown clothes. I literally put some things away at least every two weeks so I've never had time to get attached to anything!

I agree. It's amazing watching them grow, learn and develop their unique personalities. That's by far the coolest thing thus far, for me, being a mom. Everyday brings something new, funny and exciting. I am in awe each check up hearing his stats. He was such a peanut 5lbs. At birth, 18 inches. Preemie. Time really does fly by quick!

DS was 33lbs. 36 inches and his head circumference was 50cm at his 15 month appointment. He is a giant baby but is matching what DH was when he was younger. I'll just have a family of football players!

LOL. You win! 33 pounds sounds soooooo heavy to me-- not fat but, OMG, my back hurts kind of heavy! What size clothes is he in? We're primarily in 2T now but I'll bet your son is well on his way to 3T now.

I know the feeling! Seems like his clothing size changes so quickly, they might as well be disposable! Lol. I kept a few newborn outfits. Glad I did! I don't think he'd ever believe that he was such a tiny peanut!

Wow! You do win! What a big little man. Does everyone think he's older than he is? We get asked all the time if he's 2 or 3.

  • Wow!  You're little guy is tall.  Everyone keeps telling me my DD is so big.  At her 15 month well visit last week she was 24 pounds and 33 inches tall.  She looks average to me.  I am short but DH comes from a family of giants.  He is 6' 3.  His mom is 6' and his sister who is 5'8 is considered "short".
