Cloth Diapering

How necessary is the sprayer? First CD poop!

We had our fist CD pooh today! I was anxious about it (which is pretty hilarious since I'm a nurse and clean lots of poop on the regular, blech). But I really want CDs to work for us, and was so happy to find it way better contained than with sposies. That said, LO is 6mo, just starting solids. I'm guess poohs are going to get worse, but then also more formed?

So do I need to invest in a sprayer or what? And isn't it just going to spray all over the place? That spray guard thing looks pretty gross to keep around the bathroom, so Idk. Our bathroom is old. Hopefully the BG sprayer will fit our water hose. I thought about making my own at the hardware store, but it's just not worth the $30 I would save.

  • I don't have a sprayer and its fine for us. The poop should get more plopable soon for you.

  • I think you'll know when and if you need a sprayer. I hooked ours up at 6 months when we started solids. If its not ploppable and you don't feel like scraping/dunking/swirling.. then it's time for a sprayer!

  • Watch for it on sale! I got the BG one for $25 on amazon. (granted I had more time to wait for a sale since the twins aren't here yet)
and for sure don't go cheap. we got one before and in testing it pre-baby... it broke.

DD's poop STILL isn't ploppable most of the time, and she just turned 2. So unfortunately it doesn't happen for all kids. Sprayer has definitely been a necessity for us. We started with the BumGenius one and used it for a year til it broke, then DH made one that works great.

  • I've been doing the scraping and plopping thing for over a year now.  It is awful.  I just got a sprayer...finally!  Because it turns out that scraping poop out of trainers is even worse.  I couldn't be more thrilled to have a sprayer!  I honestly honestly honestly think it is well worth the money.  If you're worried about spraying everywhere, invest in one of those spray shields.

  • The sprayer was a must for us during the peanut butter poo phase, which lasted about a month, two months? Her poo is ploppable now and I don't even use it. But it was INVALUABLE when we did, and really didn't make a mess.

  • I tried swishing when DS started solids, and it only took a couple days to decide that was not for me! The sprayer is worth it to me. DS is almost 2.5 years old and his poop is not always ploppable, so we still use it often. That spray guard thing really looks like more work and mess than just spraying the diaper without it. You'll figure out the right angle and pressure to spray without sending poo water everywhere.
