High-Risk Pregnancy

Pregnant w/fibroid

Hi everyone!

I'm new to the site and hoping to get some perspective. I'm 9 weeks with my first pregnancy and pretty nervous. I had a LEEP 2 years ago so I'm already concerned about my cervix but I also have a fibroid the size of a small potato (been there for 7 years). It's imbedded into my uterine wall and at this point it's only grown a little. I'm wondering if anyone has been pregnant with a fibroid? I'm worried about *red degeneration* and it leading to a miscarriage. Thank you!

Re: Pregnant w/fibroid

  • I am!!! I didn't know I had one until I had a serious hemorrhage at 8 weeks. I thought I was miscarrying. I had 2 ultrasounds since I'm 11 weeks now and baby is fine. Did not affect my baby at all.

I'm freaking out too, mostly scared of a late term loss. Just know You are not alone. Drink plenty of fluids and talk to your doctor about any concerns you have. I did some research and a vast majority of people with fibroids go on to have healthy babies. My boss told me she had them and delivered two healthy babies 5 years apart. Gives me hope. I'm thinking about buying a doppler to calm me down. The stress is the worst for the baby I guess.

Haven't met a lot of people here with the same issue.

  • Thanks for the reply! We've talked about it and they plan on monitoring it well, I'm just also worried about late term loss. Good luck!!

Welcome!  Unfortunately I don't have any advice to give but will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

  • Welcome! I don't have experience with that, but my regular doctor thought my baby was a fibroid during my annual pap. She sent me for an u/s and that's when we found out I had a baby in there, not a fibroid.

I do have a cousin who had fibroids during her pregnancies, and she has 3 healthy, happy sons. Good luck!

  • Thank you! You guys are very kind!
  • I haven't experienced it personally but my friend had her fibroid surgical removed at 14 weeks so  about 6 weeks ago it was the size of an orange near the baby. They gave her a spinal tap took the baby out in the sac cut it out put the baby back in and her and the baby are well she is 20 weeks now. Hope everything goes well with you and baby and you don't need surgery but if you do then it can be successful and you and baby can be fine:-)
  • Wow! I didn't even know that was an option! Thank you for the story though. I hope she continues to do well!!
  • I have a rather large fibroid too. I'm 28w and doing fine. Didn't even know I had this until my first ultrasound. Before I had the worst heaviest periods, most likely due to the fibroid. My dr thought I was suffering from anemia, but after my first u/s, it was confirmed a fibroid tumor almost the size of a grapefruit! It grows with my pregnancy but should shrink some after the baby is born. I did start showing earlier than expected, and I'm measuring a little large. But the baby is growing at a healty rate and should not be affected by this. Don't stress about it, you should be fine. My BFF is a PA and says these are common in women and should disappear after menopause. Hope that helps you relax a little!
  • This makes me feel so much better. Thank you so much for posting back! Good luck and thanks again!
