Trying to Get Pregnant

OPK Question

I'm so excited to start TTC and was wondering if I should make the most out of my first few months and use OPKs or just see if nature will take its course? The idea of temping and checking mucus is kind of a little much for me at this point. I am definitely down to try charting later on if it doesn't happen for a while. Just interested in people's thoughts and what you did your first few months TTC with #1 :)

Re: OPK Question

  • That's completely a personal preference. I started with OPKs only, only started temping a couple of months ago. I wish I had started temping earlier, but that's just me. Getting a better understanding of my cycles has really helped reduce my stress levels.

    Good luck to you!

  • Totally a personal decision, there is no right or wrong answer. What do you feel most comfortable with?
Personally, I charted from the get-go and started OPKs on cycle 3 or 4.

  • Welcome.

I jumped in my first month (charting BBT, CM, OPKs), but it's not for everyone.  Using OPKs would be an easy way to help narrow down your fertility window without jumping into everything right away.

Many of us here use Wondfo's from Amazon.  They are cheap and easy to use.  Of course you can use store bought ones, but they tend to cost quite a bit more.

    Good luck!

  • Like others have said, do whatever you are comfortable with.  I was only doing OPKs when I got pregnant with DS.  This time I'm doing OPKs and temping.  You don't have to jump in and do everything at once if you don't want to.  Good luck!

  • Well, with my first, we got pregnant on the first month of trying, no temping or OPKs (I did pay attention to my CM). This time around, I'm now on day 32 of my cycle, with no idea of when I ovulated, with a bunch of BFNs. And it's really annoying me. So next month I'm jumping in with the temping and OPKs. If  you think you won't be stressed about that, then go ahead and be low key! If no, think about charting. :)

  • We are on our 5th cycle of trying and I just started using OPKs and temperature tracking.  I initially felt the way you did, but after 5 months I felt I need to be more in tune.

    Good luck!

  • My first month OPKs only got pregnant then MC. I am now temping, CM, OpKs and CBFM. I just started the monitor this cycle they are expensive so wanted to TTC a few cycles without.
It is so personal preference. I do like temping because you know if you have Oed or not. Last month I Oed a few days later than I typically so so it was good to have the OpKs and the temp to confirm.

Good luck to you. I have to admit when you start temping and charting it gets addictive so you might want to just have fun for a few months or start temping right away.
    It is personal preference!!

Good luck to you happy TTC!!!

  • I started temping this cycle and I just starting adding everything in there...OPKs, checking CM & CP, mood, symptom tracking. Like PPs have said, it helps me stay sane to know what's going on. I'd always recommend temping right away but it's a personal pref!
