Trying to Get Pregnant

Question about ovulation pain

For those of you ladies who experience ovulation pain, how long does it usually last? What does it feel like for you?

I am trying to distinguish pains here lol.  I often have twinges around my right ovary that I am more sensitive to since having a 4cm complicated cyst a couple years ago.  I was having pain last night and this morning that are similar to the pain from the cyst, but far less intense. I was wondering if it could be ovulation pain or if I'm just crazy.  I don't expect any of you to be able to tell me specifically if my pain is related to ovulation, but I was just curious about your experiences with ovulation pain.

Thank you!

Re: Question about ovulation pain

  • My ovulation pain is usually right sided, and is in the same area as my menstrual cramps, except much lighter. Usually it's a dull achy feeling with a couple sharp pains, by where my kidneys are kinda. I didn't know what it was at first but now I can tell everytime.

TTC Since October 2012.  I’m 27 and DH is 30

DH: 4 SAs, all came back normal, blood testing 6/13-9/13 all normal

Me: 03/13 irregular cycles, hypothyroidism diagnosis

3/13 full blood panel showed normal results except thyroid

5/13 regulated hypothyroidism, regular cycles again

6/13 day 21-24 blood testing came back normal

6/13-9/13 DH testing with Urologist- normal

11/13 ultrasounds and full hormonal blood panel were normal

12/13 OB consult, day 3 blood tests and HSG ordered

01/14 HSG results normal, day 3 blood tests are normal

Just hoping that AF will back off and give me a chance to take a pregnancy test! All are Welcome!!

  • I also have been getting ovulation pain on my right side, but mine starts about a week before my expected O date. It goes from dull and achy to throbbing and sharp.
  • I feel ovulation pain pretty much every cycle. It's more intense & lasts longer(12-24 hours) when it's on the right side. But it is definitely less intense than the pain from the cyst I had. When it's my right side, it feels a lot like menstrual cramping; on the left it feels like prolonged gas pains.

  • Thanks ladies! I appreciate your input.  I'm hoping I'm close to O, but it's my first cycle off BCP, so who really knows.

  • Mine feels achy at first wrapping from my left side to my lower back. That is usually the day before to day of ovulation. After the achy part I have sharp pokes in my side that usually are the night before my temp rise.

  • May be a dumb question but does ovulation pain mean I am ovulating right then? If I feel pain should I get down to business? lol Or is it just a sign that it is happening sometime soon?

I don't think it's a dumb question because I was wondering this as well.

I have read that women can feel what they describe as o pain before ovulation, during and immediately after ovulation. I guess it depends whih part of the process you are most sensitive to?

  • I'm currently experiencing pain on my left side around my hip area. I would describe it as mostly pressure and not much actual pain.

But I have no idea if it's actually O pain or gas or something. I've been feeling this for a couple days now.

How funny, my O pain is always on my right side also! My first month off BCP it was so intense I had to take ibuprofen! It was a sharp pain and only lasted 1 night. I don't remember feeling it the second month. And my third month I actually posted on here about... I would like to think it was O pain but it lasted about 5 days. I've never been diagnosed with cysts but I had to wonder if it was because it was just a dull ache on my right side for so long. I even found myself googling "blocked Fallopian tube".
This is my expected week of O and I have felt some aches but I don't know what to make of it yet.
