Parents of circumcised DS's

Silly question for parents who got their DS circumcised.  I keep looking at DS and wondering if the doctor took too little foreskin.  The head of the penis is always "turtled" or "under the hood", unless I push the skin down the shaft and then it will pop out and stay out.  No re-attachment problems or anything like that.  Not sure if this is because too little skin was taken, or if it is simply because he has a small baby penis that is pretty much "all head" right now and will not be more uncovered until he gets older and bigger.

I know it is incredibly silly, but do any of you know?  This is a real question, not MUD!

  • My DS looks the same ... His pedi told us to pull that skin down and use Vaseline so it doesn't stick.  She had to un-stick it once and it was really raw looking for a day so I make sure to use the Vaseline every diaper change.

  • Fortunately, we do not have any sticking issues, it is totally healed at this point and I pull it back once per day just to check and DW also whenever he gets a bath.
  • I think that's totally normal and not a problem.

My older sons never did that but my nephew did and I thought it was kind if weird. DS2's does it too so now I've gotten used to it. I wouldn't think there are any issues unless it was sticking.

this exactly, except I only use the Vaseline once a day... But I do pull the skin back at every diaper change.

THIS! Same thing happened to us!
  • My boy is still really pudgy in that area. I asked a very similar question about it looking "normal" and then seeming to head back as he got older and fatter. As he filled out, it got bunchier around the head. As long as you can see around the head when you push it back you are fine.

  • DS1 was like that, and still is.  I keep hoping his penis will grow into itself someday.  I also didn't think it was that "bad", until DS2 came along and his is much, much more "normal" looking, with a defined head and no extra skin.
  • Our son was having trouble with re attachment and, as you mentioned, has what looks like extra fore skin remaining. We had an appointment with a pediatric urologist today who addressed both issues. With the extra skin, he said babies will grow into it, they just need time to get older, more mobile, and lose some of that little baby fat. With the adhesions, we are going to use a prescription steroid cream for three weeks to soften the skin and he will try pulling them loose. If it doesn't work, he said its also likely that he'll outgrow the adhesions as well. Same suggestion for pulling back and Vaseline.
