Pregnancy Check In

What's new this week? How are you feeling?

QOTD: stealing this from the TTC thread. If you could live anywhere other than where you live now, where would it be?

Re: Pregnancy Check In

  • We are starting our registries this week as we seem to have more people asking about or planning showers in the upcoming months.  I am feeling really good.  Baby is moving and kicking a ton... you can see him kicking and moving from the outside which L loves since she can now feel "real kicks" from him when she rubs my belly.  A/S went well, no issues there, so we are just enjoying the second trimeter honeymoon period.

QOTD: Minnesota! My family is there and that is where I grew up.  We plan to move there before little man gets to school age, although I hope to move sooner, we shall see.

  • Feeling good! A/S tomorrow! Looking forward to seeing our little guy and seeing if my placenta has started to move out of the way of my cervix. Meeting with attorneys on Thursday to sign contracts for name change and second parent adoption. Then meeting with doula on Friday. Busy week! Was a bit nursery obsessed this weekend and ended up purchasing the crib, dresser, and a couple of accent pieces. Only big ticket items left are the rug and glider. Also, after not feeling a lot of movement, baby boy seemed to be squirming around a lot yesterday! Fun to feel.

QOTD: While Z and I would love to be closer to family, there is no way that we will move to Brownsville, which is a border town, or to my home state of MS. We would probably move to a state where our marriage could be legally recognized, but we are quite happy in Austin.

  • ATXmommas you are a week ahead of me in pregnancy but months ahead in planning. I need to do all of the things you did yesterday! I think we are getting hand me down nursery furniture, so I hope I don't need that on the list. Realistically, the nursery may even be finished after baby comes as we are going to have baby in room primarily. How exciting that we both have our A/S tomorrow! I also feel baby movements but not actual "kicks" like mwagner was describing. So excited for that!

QOTD: For the moment, we absolutely love where we live. We are two blocks from the beach and I regularly walk out the front door and stroll on the beach and I can't wait to do that with baby!

Ha! I'm a planner, that's for sure! Z just brought back a ton of clothes from her sister who has two boys. We wont need to buy clothes for a long time! Just a FYI for using a hand me down crib, crib regulations changed in 2010. Any crib made before July 2010 does not meet current regulations. I work in the area of child welfare, child care regulation specifically, so I am kept apprised of such changes. Just thought I would share!

Those big kicks aren't too far behind the initial movement/flutters... They should be coming soon!

  • Thanks, ladies! I just had a frustrating call with the hospital as they will not honor an order that was sent over by my midwife (only an MD). So I had to reschedule at another location and A/S is now on Thursday. Just feeling nervous about not feeling much movement and stupid PGAL brain. :-(

  • Just saw both fetuses on US today and they were wiggling like crazy! Such an exciting feeling. I'm at 9 weeks and struggling through all-day sickness but have found great relief with Sea Bands. It was a hot weekend in the Seattle area and I notice that I overheat easily and have to take rests in the shade like an old lady. :-) We've officially transitioned out from the fertility clinic, so we see our OB for the first time Wednesday. I'm kind of wondering when the next US will be given that we've had more than what's common in the first trimester and we're kind of off-schedule. But how do people feel safe announcing pregnancy at 12 weeks if they haven't seen the babies on US in several weeks and they won't again until about week 20? I've heard miscarriages (especially when one of the twins stops growing) can be asymptomatic. Hmm... something to ask my doc about. Because I definitely can't keep hiding this much longer- I'm down to only a few pairs of fat pants that fit!

QOTD: If I could find employment there, I would move to Maui in a heartbeat!

Married to my wife since 3/16/12 (legally in WA since 5/31/12)
TTC #1 since Aug 2012 with frozen donor sperm

    HSG showed right tube blocked
3 medicated IUIs w/ an RE (Clomid and 1 dose Bravelle)= BFNs
IVF May 2013- long Lupron protocol
    ER 5/17/13: 21 eggs, 14 mature, 11 fertilized w/ ICSI
    ET 5/22/13: 2 blasts transferred, 2 frozen
    BFP on HPT 5/29/13! Beta #1: 205 Beta #2: 608
...hope and stay positive until OB ultrasound on 6/24/13

Congrats on a successful IVF with twins! When you have your first OB appointment, you will probably have another u/s and they will likely schedule another 4 weeks later. That would put you at 13 weeks and probably would be a good time to announce. It is hard to keep it a secret of such big news. Good luck!

I'm sorry! That is frustrating. You said you were feeling some flutters, so hopefully that will ease your mind until Thurs. But, I hear ya about the PGAL brain. It's a doozy.

  • We're doing well at 35 weeks tomorrow. This little one is still head down, so we're doing weekly acupuncture, chiro and massage, in addition to home moxa and other things to facilitate a somersault. This weekend we got the last of the nursery furniture all set up so now we just need to rearrange stuff, decorate and organize. My nana comes next weeks so I'm sure we'll work on some projects then.

QOTD: Probably the bay area since we have friends there, it's qu33r-friendly (and now has federal recognition too), and is still on the West Coast. That said, we love it here and will most likely stay here forever.

  • Feeling good here! S and I actually worked on some of the wall decals we got for the nursery last night. It looks amazing and I will definitely find a way to post the pics when the crib comes next week. It's definitely making it feel more real. Baby definitely is kicking, kneeing me and I don't mind at all. Only occasionally do I think she is balling up and that is a little uncomfortable. But 99 percent of the time I'm thankful for every movement for peace of mind and reminding me if the sheer miracle of it all. I'm getting pretty nervous about birth, but I'm choosing to focus on our upcoming shower instead. I've signed up for a breast feeding class and a baby CPR class for next month. I'm anxious for our appt this Friday and wondering if they will know if the baby is head down by now....

Good luck to ATX mamas and MK this week. The a/s is awesome and I'm super sad we won't have a reason for another scan before the baby comes.

Qotd: we have a real connection to Portland. We have a couple of friends there but overall we love the feel of the city. But honestly NorCal is pretty awesome too. We love Santa Cruz, Monterrey, SLO, where S went to grad school. I could see us living in any of those places when we have a little more freedom to move. We honestly would have moved cross country this year if we hadn't had a pretty intense convo with my SIL about her moving back here and raising our kids together. Ultimately, at this point, family is more important.
