Hi there, My little guy was starting to say some words "Dada," "Mama," "NeNe (grandma in Turkish)," "Uh Oh" probably not as much as I would like, but he was definitely babbling them quite a bit but was VERY vocal in just general baby babbling but no actual words. I'm not sure if he knew exactly what they meant all of the time, but he was saying them at least. He was starting to say "Mama" when he wanted to be picked up even.
Well within the last month he started getting his first tooth and now 6 are popping in all at once. He has been SUPER cranky and clingy. I can't even begin to explain how bad it has been! Well he also hasn't been saying these words as much, but he does continue to babble quite a lot. I'm starting to get worried. Shouldn't his speech be improving not regressing? We do have a pedi appt next week so I will ask then. I wonder if it could be due to the teething? Maybe he is in too much pain to want to talk? My mom also said my brother stopped talking around this age and needed tubes in his ears so I'm worried about that. Anyone have any similar experiences? Thanks in advance!
Re: Speech regression question
Yes, his grandmother watches him for about 10 hours a day while I am working. She only speaks Turkish so he is being exposed to two languages. I didn't think that this would delay his English speech at all, but I can see where that would happen as he is learning two languages. Good point!
