Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Issues with Solids

My DD turned 6 months today and we've tried various solids in the last month.  However she seems to hate all of them.  I can't get her to take more than a few bites and most of it ends up on her face anyway.  Anyone have tips on how to get her to eat a little more?

Re: Issues with Solids

  • I really only give DD a few bites anyways. I wouldn't force food, they're still young enough that it's not meant to be a huge part of their diet anyways!

DD probably eats about 2 ounces of solids a day.

DS is the same way. We started after he turned 6 months and he doesn't like anything we try to give him. I'm not pushing it though. He'll get there someday.

  • I wouldn't worry about it. Just keep offering few days. They eat solids when they are ready.

  • My LO has days where he loves them, days where he hates them and refuses them. I did find however, he eats far more when he plays with them and they are in their original form - not pureed. If I let him play with peas and show him how I eat them and chew them, he's willing to imitate me and eat a bunch of them. If I try to force them pureed he'll have nothing to do with it. With the purees, however; if I allow him to feed himself with the spoon (very very messy) he will eat a good majority of it. I wouldn't force it though. 6 months is still very young and she should still get the majority of what she needs from formula or breast milk.
