Movement

I'm 20 weeks and have been feeling movement for about a month. Just wondering how to tell if I'm feeling movement from both twins. My MIL had one stillborn from a set of twins and I'm kinda nervous that something could go wrong with one of mine. At my A/S last week everything looked good. Just looking for a little reassurance I guess.

Re: Movement

  • I still have a hard time figuring out who I am feeling.  Unless the movement is down really low or up really high to my right side, I don't know who it is.  I definitely couldn't tell at 20 weeks because they moved positions so often.  A lot of the movement I feel now is feet/hands in the center and it could be either baby.  Baby A is head down but slightly to the right of my cervix, and baby B keeps moving between transverse and breech on top and to the right.  They find his heart rate in a different place every time I have an NST or OB appointment.

The only time I can tell for sure is if one of them stretches or when I have a contraction and there little body is sticking out more than the other.   Sorry I can't be any more helpful than that.  I have definitely had my moments of worrying thinking  I was only feeling one baby.  If you are super concerned, call your OB and see if they will get you in for reassurance!  Good luck.

  • Location mostly. I could wasn't really able to tell which on it was, until around 28 - 30 weeks when they stopped shifting positions as frequently. Also a lot of it is paying attention mine were on different sleep schedules and that helped... But mothers intuition has a lot to do with it. It was more of a guess at first but then talking to ultrasound techs and doing NSTs about their positions.

this is the same for me except my A and B are on opposite sides.

I'm 26 weeks and I feel A all day long but only occasionally feel B, maybe once a day. He's always wiggling away at my scans I just don't feel much. Placenta is on that side, so that is probably why. It can make you crazy, but I don't think it is unusual.

  • In my first u/s and both times when they've listened to both heartbeats, Twin A is on the left and Twin B on the right. So mostly I assume that whatever side I'm feeling movement on, it's coming from that twin. (I know I felt Twin A first, and it took me a few more weeks to feel Twin B for whatever reason.)
