We are going to the Oregon Coast in a couple weeks when LO will be almost 5 months. It usually is between 60-70 degrees and sometimes windy. Any advice on what to bring for baby or safety tips at the beach? My mom insists she needs a hat that covers her ears because wind in bad for them. And I also have this bad picture in my head of her grabbing sand and shoving it in her mouth. lol
Re: Baby and the beach
Hat is very important, and excessive wind can cause ear infections, but that's typically in colder weather (I am almost positive).
Sunblock, blankets, toys...anything to make your LO happy.
And eating sand is a definite possibility. But really, a little dirt never hurt. DD1 would eat sand like crazy, every chance she could. She turned out just fine.
A tent is the most important IMO because it provides serious sun relief. We had a beach and then under it we got a very small blow up pool that DS could play in. We got two or three gallons of water from the store and filled it up so it would be safe if it got in his mouth. It was a big hit!
Our pedi said no sunscreen until 6 months so we put dd I this:

We are so thankful that our second daughter, Lillian Elizabeth "Lily", was born healthy and happy on February 11, 2013. We love her to pieces.
We lost our first daughter, Hannah Grace on May 4, 2011. She was buried on May 14 during a beautiful service at my home church. We are grateful that if she could not be here with us, that she is healed and whole with the Lord. We look forward to the day when we will get to meet her. We love her so much.
We also used a hat and baby sunglasses
i did have to put a little sunblock on her cheeks from sun reflecting off the water in the pool...used the baby stuff with zinc oxide.

We live close to the beach but haven't taken DD there yet (she's only 14 weeks old). I also recommend a tent/partial tent to block the sun and wind from your LO. And I lve the small pool idea - that's perfect! Your LO won't be in the sun too long that way. And toys and frozen teethers are a must. Lots of spare diapers/swimmers, spare clothes and towels/receiving blankets, aand watch for the saNd when you put on the diaper cream. If you swim in the ocean, the sand will get everywhere for sure anyway, so no matter what, I recommend a bath after the beach for sure. Also, watch that the combination of the sun, sand ans salt water doesn't dry your LO's sensitive skin. A few facecloths to wash your LO's face are nice too.
