January 2013 Moms

since we're on the topic....

someone once told me that a baby looks like it's father in the first two years of life (supposedly so that they could be sure of paternity back when there was no DNA testing) just curious if anyone thinks this is true based on their child.

DS looks EXACTLY like DH so for me this is true

I don't understand. That would be a terrible way of determining paternity.

  • DD has features of both of us but doesn't really seem to "look like" either one of us. But I would say she favors me slightly more than DH. I think it really depends on the baby.

it's just something i heard and thought I'd ask. And way back  when there probably wasn't any better way of knowing

  • DS1 looks exactly like me.

DS2 has my coloring, but doesn't look a lot like eithre of us.

I think that OWT is ridiculous. lol

  • I heard that too and was a strong believer of it when one of my friends had a son 6 years ago that looked EXACTLY like her husband. Another friend's son who is only a month older than my DS looks so much like his father it creeps me out... since his father used to be my boss.

Unfortunately for my DH my DS looks exactly like me. Sometimes, when he's sleeping I'll suddenly be struck with DH's face in my little boy, but otherwise I don't see it. My mom will comment on photos, sometimes, that DS looks just like DH, but neither DH or I see it. DS has my big blue eyes, my big smile, my dimple in the right cheek only, and I was a baldy baby too. He is tall like his daddy though... so there's that.

  • DD looks just like her dad and I look dead on my dad even as a baby.

  • DS looks just like DH, although this month we are seeing a more of me in his face, particularly in his smile.

  • I heard that all baby animals tend to look like their father when they are very young so the adult male knows which baby they are in charge of protecting in the wild. So our little ones look like their dads' for survival in the wild.
  • DS looks just like DH when he was a baby.

  • I heard somewhere it was instinctual for a man when he sees a child to look for features that would tell him if the child is his. When women look at a child they don't have the same instinct because we obviously know when a child is our own.

There was no question with DS, he came out looking exactly like DH. Only just recently are people starting to tell me that they see me in him. F has my eyes, ears and funny baby toe the rest is DH.

  • DD is a complete copy of DH. She is his baby picture in pink. The only thing of mine we have discovered is my crooked toe. Both our second toes curve the same way. It actually freaks out my SIL how much they look alike.

Ok I am slightly tired, so maybe I am misunderstanding or having a moment, but how does an animal even know what they look like, as in reflection? It isn't like mr. Lion looks in the mirror and say wow that cub looks just like me, it has the same facial characteristics. I would think that they would rely on their sense of smell and hearing if they had to use senses other than sight. Um I'm not even sure what I said just made sense! Wow after retreading this I sound wacky! Anyway Ds looks a lot like me now, but did look just like DH for the first few months after birth.
  • When DD was first born she looked just like DH now she is my twin with his hair line and eye shape and she got his long eyelashes. Certain faces she makes she looks like him but she is my mini me..

  • DD looked just like DH/DH's side of the family when she was born. Like, literally I could've questioned if she was mine genetically had I not been the one to birth her. She looks a little more like me now but she has DH's feet. She has really bizarre feet.
  • I've been told that many times as well. And my DD looks just like my hubby. She has a little of me but nothing anyone can tell. I've noticed most of the people I know their kids were born looking just like their dads. I know a few that the baby was born looking just like the mom.

Hahaha I love this, mostly because of the mr. Lion story. I don't know much about that, but DS looks like me. He's 6 months and we are just now starting to see DH!

Besides DSs blue eyes, the kids both look more like me. Our cousins have girls the same age as DS and they both have looked exactly like their dads from birth though.

  • Nope. Both of my kids look just like me! They did get dads blue eyes though.
  • when dd was born i thought she looked just like me....i'm having a hard time finding dh in her anywhere.....she has my chin dimple...my big eyes...but my head was like, oblong when i was born, and dh has a nice round head like dd....

she actually looks like my niece and nephew when they were babies...and looks like my sister's baby pic too....

i've heard my side of the family all say she looks like a "my maiden name here" but my dad thinks she looks like my fil

of course dh's family all think she looks like him....and mil is always saying "oh she does this, just like her father used to" "her hair is spikey just like his was" "she does this just like her aunt" "oh she'll be just like her father walking at 11 months"...it's getting annoying...she does things like she does things because she's her....

  • DD is DH's twin!! They look exactly alike.  1 person has told me she's starting to get some of my features, but I just don't see it.  The only thing so far she's gotten from my side (or that I'm claiming for now) is that she's tall and skinny.  H's family is really short.

DS looks like his dad quite a bit and sometimes he will look like my dad when he smiles/laughs. It's weird because DS looks nothing like me and somewhat like my dad and I definitely take after my dad. Even my babysitter's daughter has said 'wow, he looks nothing like you! he's the spitting image of his dad' lol
