VBAC

Intro and praying I get a VBAC

Hi, just thought I would introduce myself here since I am hoping and praying for a VBAC.

A little about myself. My first was born at 37 weeks 6 days vaginally (with an epi) after my water broke on its own. My second was born by c-section (I like to call it a planned emergency c-section. I knew I needed a c-section but it happened sooner then we had planned). He was born at 35 weeks and 1 day because of placenta previa and ended up in the NICU for 11 days. A month after he was born (exactly) I had emergency surgery on my breast because of a large mastitis 2.5 cups of fluid and a 13 cm abscess were removed. So my recovery was very long and painful (I think I unfairly judge my c-section because it wasn't "normal" I didn't get to hold my son for 3 days after he was born and then had to recover from 2 surgeries).

This time I am hoping to be able to deliver vaginally again. I loved my first one, the feeling I got from it was amazing and I was able to hold and breast feed right away.

I have gone with a MW for this birth (I was to afraid an OB would push for a RCS, because it is easier for them (things are planned ahead of time they aren't getting called in the middle of the night, etc). Unfortunately my local hospital is NOT VBAC friendly so we have to travel to a hospital 45 minutes away, in the middle of winter in rural Ontario. My fear of planning a RCS is it ending up being an emergency c-section because if they plan it for 39 weeks but I haven't made it that far yet.

Thanks for sharing all your stories (the successful and the unsuccessful, I need to keep myself in reality) and I hope I can share my successful story with you in a few months.

  • I think you are very likely to be successful due to your prior vaginal birth. Good luck!
