If you've lost weight

Did your doctor want to know in between appointments? I just realized that I've lost 6 percent of my starting body weight in the last month. But I'm not sure my doctor would care nor am I sure what they would do about it considering I've been on Zofran. Does it matter how much weight was lost?

Re: If you've lost weight

  • I've lost weight..my dr, is concerned, which is why I have more appointments.

  • I lose a ton of weight every time I have babies, this time I've been holding steady so we will see what happens. My dr with my first freaked out and my second dr with the second wasn't concerned. As long as I was taking my natals an eating healthy I was good to go!

  • I've lost four pounds and my doctor is unconcerned.... for now. I guess since i was in my first trimester she didn't care so much. I think if i continue to loose weight in the next month, my next appointment is early August, then i will hear something about it. If it concerns you, i don't think it would be a problem to ask your doctor. You can never be too sure.
  • Losing weight 1st trimester and a little into 2nd trimester is my pregnancy norm.  My midwives aren't concerned at all.  They just want me to start gaining the weight back by 20 weeks.  I was down 6 lbs at 13 weeks and I have just started gaining again in the past week or so.

  • I'm 14 weeks today and still down 10 lbs. They are not concerned, because I had severe morning sickness this time. With my daughter I lost 15 but I made up for it in the 3rd trimester. It's totally normal to lose weight at the beginning, but I would mention it at your next appointment.
  • Hmmm.  It sounds like some docs care and some don't?  I'll probably just wait until my appt next week since my morning sickness has been much better the last few days.  So maybe it will correct itself.  Just didn't want to "get in trouble" if I was supposed to call.  Thanks ladies!  :)
  • My starting weight was 117.5 at my 5 week checkup. By my 8 week checkup I was down to 110. They were concerned and prescribed Zofran, which I never ended up taking because by week 8 the nausea was gone. I have been eating GREAT since week 8 and I was confident that I gained at least 5 lbs. . . . at my 14 week appointment I had only gained half a pound and they weren't concerned at all.

I think my DH was more concerned about it!

I think it also depends on if you were overweight/healthy weight v. underweight before you go pregnant.  I've lost almost 10lbs now.  At my last appt. I was down 6 and they weren't concerned because I wasn't underweight.  My MW did offer Zofran but I'm having more issues with aversions to everything than nausea.  She did say the weight loss needs to slow down/stop by 20 weeks or we'll need to talk- but she didn't elaborate on that.  I remember her saying last time that 10lbs gained by 20 weeks makes her happy that the placenta is growing well, etc.

This was why I looked into how much body weight I had lost. It took my BMI from solidly 'normal' to borderline underweight. My appt is not that far off so we shall see if it turns around now that the ms is wearing off.
  • I've lost about 7 lbs since I got pregnant. My OB is not concerned at this point. I'm guessing he will be more concerned if I don't start gaining it back in the 2nd trimester.

  • My OB told me early on that you can lose 10% of your body weight before they get concerned.
    Due 10/4/2015 with my third
  • 6 is alot
I would be very focused on your hydration
  • I'm down 8lbs at 13ish weeks. My OB was "concerned" not necessarily about the number but because I tend to lose weight (too much weight...) when I'm stressed. I think she thinks it's an anxiety issue and doesn't believe it's "morning sickness" because I haven't thrown up (yet). I know fully that I am just completely turned off by food. I lost 11lbs in my first trimester last time and started about 20lbs lighter than I am now. I think this is my norm. Sucks, though! Hope you start feeling better soon.
