EBF and Acid Reflux

Besides meds and sitting baby up 30 mins after feeding. Any one experience a change in diet for mom.. That could help. If so what foods. I've taken soda, fried foods, acidic foods and coffee out of my diet.... Increased water, milk and oatmeal! Any other suggestions!?
I was trying to wait until the six week apt, he's 3 weeks now... It kills me to see him in so much pain/irritation.

Re: EBF and Acid Reflux

  • I took in a stool sample to the Ped and apparently nothing I am eating is causing DDs acid refulx. So far the antacid has stopped the constant spit up but she's still fussy so I really don't know what else to do myself. It is heart wrenching to see them in pain. It's been driving me nuts not being able to really make her feel better.

  • Try eliminating all dairy from your diet.  I've heard this helps some women.

  • I was gonna say dairy too. Could be a milk allergy. I had 3 kids who had this problem but luckily they out grew it as the got older. Try cutting all milk and you will notice in just a few feedings if your baby is feeling better. Good luck I remember how fussy my boys where before I figured out what was upsetting their Tummy!
  • Get chocolate out of your diet as well. And like PP said dairy is a good one to eliminate too. Keep things bland as well and GL.

  • Dairy. DS was dairy intolerant while I BF and still can't have any dairy at almost 2 years old. He would be extremely fussy and cry a lot until I eliminated dairy from my diet. However, we had other symptoms such as green BM and mucus in his stools.

We are suffering too, as I type. I took out milk and soy 2 wks ago. They say dairy affects about 5 percent. It was not a noticeable change to me, except the 4th of July when I had a latte and a slice of cheesecake and baby boy cried, spit up constantly and screamed for 5 hours. I'm back off again.

We started Zantac and it helps very little. I think it's just the passage of time and development progress of their system.
  • How old is your LO? I am mobile bumping and cant see. My lo is about to be 3 weeks and having some issues. I havent tried taking anything out yet but i already dont drink soda and such. Her pedi wants to wait and see if she grows out of it as her esophgus muscles strengths and grows over the next few weeks. If not then we will treat it. I hope she does. Maybe your LO will too

  • Cut out sugar! Sugar is a major cause of heartburn, only most people don't realize it.
