Adoption

Kicked outta daycare

Today my foster son was kicked out of daycare. We have had him for almost 3 months. Looking for another placement since DH are not looking to adopt for quite a while and he looks like he will need to be adopted. We told our case worker we would ride it out with him until the right family is found. Since we said that I feel like they are taking their time finding a family. Now with him kicked out of day care, which I work there, I am not sure how to go on with him. His medical info is behind and DCFS never gave an official quote on paying for daycare. So we can't just put him in new care.
I called the case worker today and she didn't answer, I feel like I am getting no help for this child! What would you do?!

  • Just to add as an update.

DH and I gave a 14 day notice. I feel like a terrible person. Still have not spoken with the case worker but with her higher up. I also got the help from my license worker, who is the one to tell me to give the notice.

You need to do what is best for you, your family, and the child at the end of the day. If your home is not the right placement for his particular needs- then its okay to say that, its honestly best to say that. If he needs more support or a different environment, that is okay- it honestly is not a reflection of you as a parent. Different children have different needs and as a foster child, his needs could be greater if they have not been met for a prolonged period of time. Stay on top of the case worker and I hope it all gets sorted out for you and your foster son. GL!

  • You need to do what's best for you and your family.  I agree with your licensing worker with giving the notice.  I would also speak to her supervisor and demand you receive a call back.  That is totally unacceptable for them to not be giving you answers.  If you don't get anywhere with them go to the guardian ad litem, every foster child has one, and explain to them what is going on.  They are the voice of the child and there only for the child, so if you can't get anywhere maybe they can.
  • I'm sorry to hear about what happened, but it sounds like you're making the best decision for all involved!  Hugs to you!
I'm a dance studio owner, writer, cat mommy, and adventuress who is married to the man of her dreams. My husband and I have had a long-time dream to adopt and it's happening in a way that we didn't quite anticipate. But, like any move of God, it's turning out way better than we expected. We'd love for you to follow our story at www.kirstenkline.com!
  • Sorry to hear that it hasn't worked out for you. I'm glad you were able to do what is best for your family.

  • I used to be a foster care worker.  You absolutely are not a terrible person for giving notice on this child.  Not every match is perfect.
