Swimming lessons

Hannah and I just finished her first swimming lesson class. She was very good and didn't cry at all. So cute! Anybody else done swimming lessons?

Re: Swimming lessons

  • We do! We've been doing a swim class every week since she was 4 months old. She has a blast and loves her instructor (we've had the same one the entire time). DH and I switch off who gets in the pool with her so she feels comfortable with both of us in the water. I highly recommend it!
    After 2+ years TTC, 1 miscarriage, & 3 failed IUI's... IVF#1 worked! DD born 2012
2013 FET#1: BFP, but we lost the baby at 12 weeks
    2013 FET#2: BFN
2014 FET#3: BFP, but our sweet baby was born sleeping at 33 weeks
    IVF#2: BFP! DD born 2015
    2017 IVF#3: BFN
    2017 IVF#4: BFN

I'm so jealous! I've been trying to get MH to take E to swim lessons since she was 6 months. He is mad about how much they cost. When we finally put her in a pool last weekend she hated it. I'm worried we missed the window and she will always hate water now. :[

I doubt she will hate it forever. But pools can be cold sometimes. does she like bath time?

She does fine in the bath, but it's not especially fun for her if you know what I mean. She doesn't hate it but she doesn't love it.

Ya Hannah is the same way in the bath. Well it's never to late to start swimming lessons! Maybe there are cheaper ones around? We did a week deal, we go every day for a week and it was only $25.

You can wait on continuous formal swim lessons until she is two. Liking the pool is a repetition thing combined with your comfort around pools. Go to open swim, bring toys, sing songs, hold her on the belly, face towards you so her legs are free and encourage her to kick (horizontal in the water). Resist the urge to dunk her until she is much more comfortable. Once she settles down, do a once a week class for a month to learn what to do...then practice, practice, practice!
