When you paint.....

Do you paint the ceiling or leave it beige/white (whatever color is in your house)

I actually prefer the color to be the same as my walls with white crown molding like we have in our kitchen/living/dining but in our bedrooms its all the builders beige.

DH likes to leave the ceilings the beige.

Just curious, I think it might be location based but interested in hearing what you guys have to say!

Re: When you paint.....

  • I leave it white. It makes the space appear smaller if you paint the ceiling the same color IMO.

  • All our ceilings are white. I probably wouldn't paint the ceilings the same colors as my walls, I'd fear it would feel like a solid colored cave even if it was a neutral. I like the white ceilings and feel like they make the rooms feel bigger.

  • More in the south, we have really tall ceilings so I guess this has never been of concern.

All of our houses when built have the same colors on the walls as on the ceilings, but when changing the colors we tend to leave the ceilings the builders beige colors

  • White

  • I prefer when they are left white.  I think it looks really sloppy when the ceiling is the same color as the walls -- almost like you were too lazy to tape it off or something.

Ours are white. If I were going to paint them a color, I would not choose the same color as the walls.

  • I leave it white. I'd love to do a colored ceiling at some point, but I think it would be different from the walls. Maybe do the walls in something muted and a bold ceiling

  • We painted our ceilings, not the wall color but a VERY light tinge of it, it looks white but if you look at the difference between the molding and ceiling then you can tell... looks more finished to me this way. My friend uses an interior designer for her house and this is what she did as well. We also have higher ceilings as well
  • White. I think the ceiling and walls being the same color looks like a cave. I can see doing a pale shade of the wall color like a pp said.
