Initials ruin everything

Every boy name we really like ends up making some ridiculous initial combination. We love Noah Alexander but our last name starts with a P :NAP: I know Noah is extremely popular but we have been thinking about it for years. We even came up with a name that resulted in ICP :Insane Clown Posse:. How important are initials in the long run? Btw, we don't know what we are having yet but aren't having the initial problem with girl names.

Well, they're very important to me since I tend to monogram a lot of things.

    It's very popular here.

And as I always win the worst initial contest, I'll just go ahead and throw it out...my BILs initials are JEW.

My SIL's initials are FAG which would be problematic if she went to public school (she is home-schooled). My aunt's initials were going to be A$S but my grandma changed her mind at the last minute and named her Amy Lou instead of Amy Sue.

I would consider initials because kids can be cruel to one another.

I kinda like NAP and I love the name that goes with it. We have pretty much decided on a boy's name that will result in the initials OFF. I kinda like it! I mean, unless you're really into monograms, it won't really matter.

I will throw my hat in the race! My cousin is named :Bridget Ann Deluca - BAD! This came from the fact that my Aunt was called bad Ann Lorretta as a kid and she thought it would be cute.Bridget is 14 now and goes to a private school where they have monagrams on their sweaters...not so cute!

My boy name makes p TAC and i have no problem with it, how often do kid go around saying my middle name is this... unless they like talking about themselves ha ha.  I see no problem with NAP. I love the name Noah Alexander

Now, it's not so bad if you have a girl, since girl monograms are done differently.

BIL would be jWe with a large W in the middle.

However, nap is fine, unless your child has curly hair. nbsp;If neither you not DH have curls, I'd go with it.

    Ha! This is funny.

    Awesome.

Yep. He actually received a number of monogramed gifts for graduation from high school and college from friend's parents...so somewhere there is a leather portfolio cover, a sterling julep cup and a couple more things with a big JEW on the side. Funny thing is that he goes by his middle name. They picked one grandfather to honor with the first name and to honor the other one by calling him by that name.

My grandfather's initials were SSA.  However, he was in the Navy during WWII, when you sewed your initials into the waistband of your underpants so they didn't get mixed up with someone else's in the laundry.  So, from the outside, his initials looked like AS$, and his bunkmates all thought he had to label his underwear so he knew which side went in back.

EDIT: To answer your question, OP, I don't think initials matter all that much.  I hate mine (MAA), but that just means I don't get things monogrammed.  And if your son doesn't like his full initials, he can always just go by NP.

DS initials are GDH which isn't bad unless you say it GD last name then it sounds funny.

If you are monogramming most last names are in the middle and bigger, so it shouldn't be a big deal. If you love the name go for it.

Not that it matters, but the typical male monogram is straight across all the same size letters. Female monograms are the ones with the large last name initial in the middle. Though it's done both ways nowadays. I prefer it the traditional way.

Sooo I don't have a middle name. So I never monogram things, ugh! I can just do it in my husbands I guess. My initials are MO! I can't just monogram MO right?? It's a Croatian thing, since our first names are usually so unique, why have a middle name? Although, I think my children will, not sure yet.

Edit: Oh and...my husbands initials are MJO, which is fine but I know people who have done his and hers with last name in the middle so ours would be mOm or MOM..like mom! Ugh! Stupid matching initials!

NAP and ICP wouldn't bother me at all.  As long as it's not spelling out something dirty or vulgar, I don't think they matter a ton.  Even for monogramming, the last name ends up in the middle, so Noah Alexander P would look like nPa anyway...

ETA: my initials growing up were MMF... which sounds like getting hit in the gut.  Or just MF, which is obviously not the best initials for a little girl.  But it never really impacted me in any way.

My initials are WET. And DHs last name begins with T, so my initials stayed the same after I got married.

I know WET isn't like ICP or JEW, but it really wasn't ever that big of a deal. If you love a name, just go for it.

I don't think initials are too big of a deal. Especially, like some people said of they are not vulgar. NAP is not bad at all. My married initials are SAD. I always joke that I became sad when I married my husband.

I was always bummed out my initials didn't spell anything. I was very jealous of my friend Brianna. She went by Bri, as many Brianna's do, and then her initials were also BRI. I thought that was the coolest thing ever. (This was in elementary school. I don't remember caring or thinking about initials after that until wedding time.)

If we have a girl the name we are considering would have the initials NAG which is the only reason we're debating the name. Really I don't think NAG is that bad. We'll find out the sex next week and then we'll really have to decide.

although we are having a boy, id initially had the "girl" feeling and soley devoted my energy to picking out a girl name. i had my heart set on vivienne grace our last name is A until i realized that the monogram would be vAg. sad face.
since we're having a boy our name right now is William Michael [paternal great grandfathers names], meaning the monogram will be wAm! i think it has a nice buhzingg to it haha

I work with this guy, don't know his middle name, but his initials are BM and he hates it. We have user names and passwords for a computer program and his starts with BMBM lol. He also has an I touch used for documentation during patient treatments and we put the therapist initials on the back, but his just says B, not BM because he didn't want it there. So yeah, he's a little insecure about his initials.

My initials were the same as my brother's... MEG. It was great for me because my name is Meghan, but my brother hates it and obviously is not marrying out if them. Initials for us aren't a big deal, but we are aware if not making them spell something goofy.

We are leaning towards Oliver for our boy's name. A potential middle name of Mac FIL middle name would give us OMG.

My initials were PIS. I know it's missing an s, but I still got a lot of crap at school about it. It's definitely important.

Initials SUCK. seriously, I wanted to name our LO Lincoln Daniel and our last name starts with an S. So the initials would be LDS. No big deal right? WRONG. we live out here in Utah, aka, Mormon land. My husband and I are not Mormon and he detests the thought of having our child's initials be the same as the dominant church in our area. Sigh...there goes my favorite boy name. He cannot be swayed.

The current top name initials make "SAG".
On the flip-side, our girls' initials together spell GAS, and let me tell ya.... They live up to that!! So the girls think we should name our new little girl Yvette, Yvonne or Yolanda, so that they can be GAS-y.... Poorly spelt, but they're having fun with it!;-)

ETA: personally, I would probably hesitate if it spelled something I can't get past.... Just for those crazy school years. But NAP wouldn't bother me. Hopefully it would be a sign of good things to come in the sleep department!!
