One hour glucose test today ...

I'm getting ready to start drinking my Sprite for my one hour glucose test today!  Here's to hoping everything turns out okay!

I haven't seen anyone else post about the way that my doctor's office does it, so I thought I'd ask.  Basically, today I have to drink a 16-oz. Sprite in 15 minutes.  Then I have to record the time and be at the doctor's office in one hour to have my finger pricked.  If I fail that, I have to go back for more testing.

Anyone else have to do it this way?  I've seen several people posting about a three hour test where you have to drink a nasty drink ... maybe this is for later?  FTM here ...

  • This seems really early. I don't think I'm going mine until after the a/s.

  • I won't have mine until 24 weeks but my doctor does it different from yours. First you get a orange glucose drink so I'm really jealous you get to have a sprite. You drink that an hour before your appointment and the when you get there they do a blood draw not a finger poke. Also I can't eat anything other than protein like eggs before the appointment.

  • That is definitely very different from my doctor. I didn't go with DS until I was about 28 weeks pregnant. I had to go to the hospital, drink this orange glucose drink, wait an hour in the waiting room, and then they drew blood. I'm jealous that you can do yours at home and get to drink a Sprite.

  • My test was almost into my 3rd trimester and I drank the orange drink. Maybe I should save this for Thursday, but I really liked the drink!

  • I mentioned at my last appointment that I was having some dry mouth issues, which I've heard is a symptom of gestational diabetes.  Maybe this is why I'm doing it so early?  Other than that, no other complications.  Diabetes does run in my family, but I've always heard that there's no link between the two.

  • They haven't scheduled mine yet (my next appt if 7/30 but for an a/s).  I'm hoping I get to drink Sprite though:)

  • My doctor hasn't even brought it up to me.  Maybe it's something she tests for later?  I'll ask her next time.

  • My doc isn't going to do one until 24 weeks I believe she said. I couldn't wait though do the other day I just conducted my own test . I drank a large glass of OJ with my regular breakfast that consisted of an English muffin with eggbeaters , cheese and ketchup . I waited an hour did a test and had a BGL of 63. I was very happy with the results. I don't know how exactly my doc does it but it made me feel better until I get the real one. I don't have family history of this and I'm not diabetic but for some reason I was worried .
  • My doctor will be testing me at 28 weeks.

  • I had to be tested early this pg due to a history of GD.  I took the one hour and had to drink this Sprite-like drink.  Similar taste but no carbonation.  Then an hour later they took my blood.  I failed that and then did the 3 hour test.  I had to drink more of the liquid and have my blood drawn every hour.  I passed that at 11 weeks and have to do it again at 28 weeks.
