Baby Showers

games to play at a restaurant

Hello ladies,

I am going to have my shower at a local restaurant and was wondering whether anyone has some simple, yet fun, games that can be played while a restaurant is open?

  • If you must do games, maybe a word scramble?

I wouldn't do anything that would possibly be disruptive to other patrons at the restaurant (unless you have a private room?)

Honestly though, I think these days most people do not like games at showers.  I super hate being asked to participate in a game when I really just want to kick back and enjoy the shower.

Assuming most of your guests are adults I would think that they should be able to entertain themselves for a couple of hours by making chit chat, and by watching you open your gifts.

Print everyone a clip-art outline of a baby/onsie and put some crayons along the table.  People can decorate the outfit while they're waiting for everyone to arrive, or in between courses, without being too disruptive.  MTB picks her favorite outfit for the winner.

Agreed. I actually like games at a shower, but I don't think it's appropriate at a restaurant unless you have a dedicated shower room where you won't be disturbing other paying patrons of the restaurant.

  • I would skip the games, but if you must do something do something that is small.

My cousin had a game at her baby shower - they had one if those large plastic baby bottles and filled it with jelly beans - everyone had to guess how many were in it. Whoever got the closest won a prize.

One of my hostesses had a list of trivia questions - what was my due date, what nickname were we using for the baby before he was born, what were we planning to name him, etc - and had people write down their answers/guesses while people waited for the food to be ready.  I think there was a prize for the most correct answers and one for the funniest.  I went to a shower that had a timed word scramble and then a timed word jumble, most found/unscrambled won prizes.

  • Baby shower bingo should be fairly easy to do, if you're opening gifts at the restaurant.
  • I think anything that can be written down Is fine and might help pass the time if y'all are waiting on food.
how many names can you make out of the word baby shower, guess the celebrity parents from a list of baby names, have them write down a sweet message for baby in a pretty book, baby trivia quiz, those would all work and would not be disruptive
  • I am not a fan of games, but at my shower my hosts decided to do ones that wouldn't involve anyone touching me or sniffing fake poo in diapers! :) One of the games that they did was print out 6 funny pictures of babies off of the internet, then gave everyone a notecard. The pictures were passed around and each person had to write their best caption per picture. (IE- notecard was numbered 1-6, when they received picture #2, they wrote down the best caption that came to mind.) Once all the captions were written down, the picture was held up, then each person read out loud their caption. I then chose the funniest/best one, and that person won a prize. It was quiet, quick, yet still very entertaining.

  • I found a Mad Libs story online that we did for my cousin's restaurant baby shower.  Not really a game but it ended up being pretty entertaining.
