Bathtime

Those of you that don't bathe your baby as a part of the bedtime routine, when do you bathe them?  We have decided to take bath time out of the bedtime routine because she loves her bath and goes crazy in it. I think she is having too much fun and not settling down for the night like we need her to. But now I can't figure out a good time to bathe her. I'm just curious to hear what other people do.

Re: Bathtime

  • I actually do bath time before bed because she gets all hyper. I think it helps to get that last bit of energy out. Then we spend 20 minutes putting lotion on, like a baby massage and settling down afterwords.

  • Lately DS has been getting showers with us. Once or twice a week, and also when he  is super sweaty (another couple of times a week).

  • Whenever I can fit it in at a time that he's awake and hasn't just finished eating.  No set time and not part of any routine.

It's pretty random here.  We tried before bed when she was young but it was winter and she would get cold in the transfer from bath to pj's that it woke her more.

Now we bath at some point in the day twice a week or so.  She spent over 30min yesterday trying to splash ALL the water out of her baby bath.  She was going bonkers in there laughing and kicking and hitting the water non-stop.  She didn't empty but managed to lower the water level a good 2inches.  Due to this we now put her bath in our big tub and let her go at it.

She goes to bed by 6:20pm so there is just no time to have it in a bedtime routine.  She sits at the table with us while we eat supper then she gets a diaper change and feed and is asleep.

  • It's whenever is convenient during the day for us.  I have my mom and MIL alternating days taking care of DD and sometimes they do a bath (usually after a particularly messy diaper) so I don't have to at night.  I also don't like to do a complete bath every night so we sometimes do a wet washcloth rubdown before getting dressed for bed.
  • I do it as a good morning, time to start the day kind of thing. When DS wakes up, I nurse him in bed. Then he gets to play with daddy in bed while we drink coffee/hang out as a family. Once dad leaves for work and DS has had some time to digest his milk, we do the bath, dry him off and dress him for the day, and then play or nurse again depending on cues.

my LO is often cranky in the evening and likes to do a marathon nursing session before bed, so it doesn't fit into our bedtime routine very well. When I go back to work in August (teacher), we'll have to figure something else out.
