Shower Invitations...

Alright, I need some help with my shower invitations... Do I send them to out of town aunts/cousins that I know won't be able to attend? Or does that seem like a present grab... I mostly just want to include them to be nice :) How about the out-of-towners who have already given me something - still send an invite or no? Thanks for your help - I'm totally clueless!

Yeah my mom and sister-in-law are, but somehow I got stuck getting all the addresses...

  • Unless it's people you talk to often, I would only provide address for guests you know should be able to make it (i.e. live close enough).  I invited a friend of mine that lives in California to DD's party, but she and her H travel back to Texas all the time. So I invited them on the off chance they'd be in town.  They were and she was touched I included them.  However, I wouldn't invite someone I didn't talk to/see often if they lived further away just because they are family.

When in doubt though, ask your mom what she thinks.  At least that's what I did for family members I was unsure about.

  • I gave my sister the list and she is sending out the invites and planning the shower. I put the out of town aunts and family on there. I highly doubt they will come but some people may use it as their reason to come to NYC for a VaCa. Plus I know these family members will send a gift no matter what and it would be nice if they knew they were thought of for the shower. I'm the first "kid" (ahem, 31 lol) in the family to have a baby so everyone is super excited.

FYI...it is generally the honoree's responsibility to provide addresses for the hosts as it is your friends/family that will be invited.  So I wouldn't say you got "stuck" with getting the addresses.

  • I'm not sending them to my out-of-town relatives.

This is pretty much what I am doing too. I am sending invites to a few out of town (across the country) relatives.I guess I just don't know for absolute certain that they won't want to make a trip out of it. And, I know that they will give me a gift anyway and at least this way they know I was thinking of them and truly wish they could make it. Out of town friends I am pretty much skipping all together.

  • All my family lives nearby, but for Dh's family shower my sister in law is sending them to only certain people from out of town who do travel back occasionally, or who would be offended if they didn't get an invite.

There are family members of theirs who wouldn't care and because they live out of town they aren't getting one.  Or so she says anyway.  I gave her all the addresses from my wedding 2+ years go and let her make the choice.

  • My mom and cousin are throwing my shower. However, they are still sending invitations to family that live out of state. This is DHs first child so most of his family lives out of state but they want to send gifts or gift cards and some have said they would like to attend but we'll see.

I have one aunt that lives across country, but we are close so I included her on the shower list. If we weren't close I probably would not have invited her.

I would probably invite very close friends who live out of town. I know I've been invited to showers that I couldn't really travel to attend, but I appreciated being invited. Instead of sending a gift for the shower I gave the mom/baby a gift when I had the chance to see them in person.
