Egg donation cont: psych and medical

Mobile: Egg donation cont: psych and medical

Several of you have said it's interesting to hear what's happening on this end of things (prospective egg donor), so I am continuing my saga.

So!  Had some pretty exciting events in my life recently, not the least of which is passing two milestones in the journey to become an egg donor.  Well, I technically haven't passed the med screening yet since it was only yesterday and the bloodwork isn't back, but the only possible finding left that would rule me out would be fragile X syndrome.  (I had NO IDEA how many freaking tubes of blood that testing was going to take, by the way.)

They also looked at my ovaries with ultrasound and everything...which I geekily found really cool, actually.  I am apparently about to ovulate--it was amazing how clearly we could see the "winning" follicle, this giant black ball compared to the little "chocolate chip" follicles.  I have seen my muscles on ultrasound before--given my research work environment, that sort of thing just kinda happens, I have a random MRI of my brain and knee too--but this was a totally different kind of cool. The doc had to ask me to turn the screen back towards her, haha. Anyway, never having donated before or been pregnant myself, I'm no sure bet, but as far as they could tell I'm good to go.

The psych eval was about a week and a half ago.  It was fine, I think they basically wanted to ensure that, yeah, I know the kid isn't mine, I don't get any say over parenting choices or politics etc etc. Plus basic emotional stability. They also had me take a true/false survey that was pitched as a personality test, but it asked things like whether my actions had ever been influenced by demons...um.  I was also amused that the phrase, "So, tell me about your childhood," was literally used.  I thought that was just a stereotype!  Apparently not. Anyway, they seemed pleased at the end, probably because I am familiar with adoption and a lot of the concepts are the same.

My primary care needs to send their shiz over and then I hope we can get that profile up and get this show on the road!

  • FX your med screening results are good! Also, a big WOW to actions "influenced by demons". What kind of question is that? I would be tempted to reply "yes, demons influenced me to donate my eggs". lol

  • I found the MMPI questions humerus as well.  I remember some were "I believe people are out to get me", "I often feel like I'm being watched", "I'd like to be a florist".  I remember thinking that someone would pretty much have to try to fail in order not to pass.
