Switching daycare

DD1 and DD2 aren't in the same daycare. DD2's DC is more expensive, but up until now, I felt it wasn't worth switching her just to save some $$.

Except that she's on to her 3rd teacher since she moved up from the infants room, 6 months ago, and I am just not getting a good vibe from the new girl. She's been there 2 weeks and hardly writes anything in DD's daily log. DD's rain boots went missing last week (still haven't found them) and the first thing that came out of her mouth was "**I** didn't see her wearing those boots today". And she tells me that DD cries a lot during the day. I am thinking she misses her old teacher, but her new one prefers to believe she must be sick, since she wasn't crying the first day or two... They actually called me and asked me to pick her up because she apparently has been crying all day. Breaks my heart.

Soooo... I have decided to switch daycares and send DD2 to the same daycare as DD1. I know there is an adjustment period when a new teacher comes in, but I'm just not getting any good vibes from her.

Re: Switching daycare

  • I say go with your gut!

there have been one or two instances where I didn't get good vibes from new teachers at my kids daycare. I talked to the person in charge of that building (like the head teacher) and I was told that I wasn't the only parent having concerns. sure enough, within a week that teacher was no longer there.

I have a feeling she won't be working there long, but then that only means DD having to get used to yet another teacher. If I'm gonna have her get used to a new teacher anyways, I'd rather it be one I know will be there to stay.

And so I spoke with DD1's DC this afternoon. They might have an opening next month. It would be in the 18 months group. While technically she will belong in the 24 months group, I don't mind. She wouldn't be that much older than the rest of the group, and it's not like she's advanced for her age. Plus they would move her up with the 24 months old as soon as there's an opening. Worse case scenario is that she would stay with the 18 months old until September of next year, then skip the 24 month olds altogether to go with the 3-year olds

DC director is away until the 26th, though, so I won't know for sure until then.

Also? DD2 actually spent part of the day in the infants room today (because her teacher couldn't deal with her crying, I guess), and apparently did just fine there - she LOVES the teachers in the infants room and they love her back, so I'm not surprised.

  • Maybe knowing that her big sister is there will also help with the transition? I hope things work out and a spot opens up.

  • Sounds like you are doing the right thing! I couldn't imagine leaving DS with a teacher like that. I've also only had two kids in five years start in my class and leave soon afterward. Both times the families were not ready for full day care and all that comes with it. I'm sorry your DD is having to deal with this! I think you're right and this teacher won't be around for long and hey, maybe it will make your life a little easier having both your girls in the same place.

  • Sounds like she just isn't meshing with the new teacher, so a DC change sounds like a good move. FX that a spot opens up for her soon!

  • Hopefully, she'll enjoy being able to see her sister during the day! Good luck with switching. :)

Sounds like this change will be for the best on several levels. nbsp; You don't need a bunch of disengaged jackholes taking care of your sweet DD. nbsp;Plus, given her past medical history, I'm sure you'd love some consistency.

No kidding. It does get old, having to repeat her story over and over...
