DD had about 5-8 words around 11 months, then started walking and the talking suddenly took a backseat to more important tasks. She lost some of the words she was good at saying, and is only now bringing some back and learning new ones. There are still some words she used to say that she hasn't said since, but they'll come eventually, I'm sure.
I double checked with her ped at the 12 month appt. and she confirmed that babies can work only work on one big skill at a time, so when something like walking comes along, verbal gains pause and sometimes even regress.
Re: first words at 12mnths, now more quiet?
