I HATE THE POST OFFICE

So I ordered a custom necklace for my mom with a line from a song she used to sing to me (and my other siblings) when I was little. I have been SO EXCITED to see it and I got an e-mail over a week ago saying that the USPS received the information but it never updated...I emailed the woman today to ask when I should expect it and she said she mailed it weeks ago!! I am so upset, we are celebrating Christmas with my parents this Sunday and I was so looking forward to giving it to her.

She said she could possibly remake it and that she is going to the post office today and that she would ask...but if they just lost it, I am pretty much screwed, aren't I?  Crying

Re: I HATE THE POST OFFICE

  • Oh, I ordered it from Etsy and the policy page says they aren't responsible for lost items...sorry just realized that didn't make much sense.

  • I deal with shipping logistics alot in my job. The USPS, however not the worst shipper out there, does not continue to track packages throughout the shipping process like some other carriers do (UPS or Fed Ex)  So it is not uncommon that the package would be scanned in once at pickup and would not updated again until after delivery. The post office probably will not be able to tell her anything unless the package is still in their location, which is not unheard of. Is she going to remake it and charge you for it? You can try seeing what the Post office tells her. But really you will just have to wait and see. If could come today. Very frustrating I know. GL. I hope it gets there. FYI today is the last day to ship through USPS to get there by Christmas.

  • It might still be delivered sometime soon.  Whenever we get something sent to us through the USPS, it always arrives before they bother updating the shipping info online.
  • Well, I received the email on Dec 6th, so 9 days ago. That seems like a long time to have something sitting and waiting to be sent! I'm just so upset, it's a custom piece so she can't just send a different one, plus I have known for MONTHS that this is what I was going to get my mom. Uggh this makes me so upset I could cry!
  • Are you super-sure she's telling the truth?

  • The e-mail I got was from USPS, here is what it said:

The U.S. Postal Service was electronically notified by the shipper on December 6, 2008 to expect your package for mailing. This does not indicate receipt by the USPS or the actual mailing date. Delivery status information will be provided if / when available.

Does that mean she didn't drop the package off yet? I don't get how their tracking service works, I never use it. I am just so frustrated, I have no idea what to do if I don't get this gift.

    Ditto.

Do you have the actual tracking # or just something from her saying she sent it?

I have never had an issue with tracking on USPS.com, and even though it is the holidays, 9 days is too long of a gap.

My guess is, she did the postage online and didn't drop the package off for a few days afterwards.  I bet she didn't sent it the same day.

  • So is it possible that she dropped it off later and that is why I haven't received anything yet? That is more preferable than it getting lost, even if it does make me angry. At least I would still get it eventually!

That is what I would tend to think.

I use the tracking at USPS all of the time, and I have never once had an issue with it not updating within 24 hours of dropping the package off and 24 hours within delivery.

I'd keep checking it and if it doesn't update again, I'd contact the seller again.

  • So I called the post office and they said that because she got the shipping online they don't have to scan it in and it won't tell me if they have actually received the package. They are going to look in to it and give me a call...basically I am just so upset right now, this was supposed to be such a meaningful gift for my mom and if I don't get it in time (or at all) I will be incredibly disappointed. UGH!
  • I would be upset too. That is such a great gift. It sounds like you have found a helpful person to help try and track. They will do what they can and the package will likely show up at some point. In the two years I have been working with logistics escalations I have never had a "lost" package never turn up. It may have been months later (not to add stress) but they show back up. It is a hectic time of year. Do you have a picture of the necklace you can wrap up? Its not the same but she will understand.
