So I ordered a custom necklace for my mom with a line from a song she used to sing to me (and my other siblings) when I was little. I have been SO EXCITED to see it and I got an e-mail over a week ago saying that the USPS received the information but it never updated...I emailed the woman today to ask when I should expect it and she said she mailed it weeks ago!! I am so upset, we are celebrating Christmas with my parents this Sunday and I was so looking forward to giving it to her.
She said she could possibly remake it and that she is going to the post office today and that she would ask...but if they just lost it, I am pretty much screwed, aren't I?

The e-mail I got was from USPS, here is what it said:
The U.S. Postal Service was electronically notified by the shipper on December 6, 2008 to expect your package for mailing. This does not indicate receipt by the USPS or the actual mailing date. Delivery status information will be provided if / when available.
Does that mean she didn't drop the package off yet? I don't get how their tracking service works, I never use it. I am just so frustrated, I have no idea what to do if I don't get this gift.
Ditto.
Do you have the actual tracking # or just something from her saying she sent it?
I have never had an issue with tracking on USPS.com, and even though it is the holidays, 9 days is too long of a gap.
My guess is, she did the postage online and didn't drop the package off for a few days afterwards. I bet she didn't sent it the same day.

That is what I would tend to think.
I use the tracking at USPS all of the time, and I have never once had an issue with it not updating within 24 hours of dropping the package off and 24 hours within delivery.
I'd keep checking it and if it doesn't update again, I'd contact the seller again.
