Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Toddler bed??

DD proved to us this morning that she can climb out of her crib with the sleep sack on. She is 18 months and I don't know if she is ready to be transitioned. She is able to crawl in and out of the crib relatively easy. Do I leave her in the crib and let her climb in/out or do I convert her crib? I had planned on leaving her in the crib alot longer than this. Also, if I do convert do I put a baby gate across her door

Re: Toddler bed??

  • We converted a few months ago. We put a baby gate in the hall so he can get to our room and that it.

  • I am planning on moving my DD to a twin bed by the end of the summer.  She hasn't climbed out yet, but she wil try to put her leg up.  We are skipping the toddler bed because we need the crib for the new little one and DD is able to get out of a bed safely.  I plan to put her dresser in her closet and everything except her books away.
    Hallelujah, it's a miracle, I have children AND a signature!

  • Thanks ladies. I think we will start the transition. Things just never seem to go as planned with these LO's ;

  • We're skipping a toddler bed, too.  It just seems a waste to me, so we'll go right to a twin bed when we switch.  We were going to switch her to a full bed, but now I think that would take up too much play space in her already small room.

    I wasn't planning on switching DD for quite a while yet, but I caught her putting her foot up on the crib rail 2-3 times this weekend, so I'm getting nervous that she'll try to climb out one of these days.  She also started daycare today, and they nap on cots, so I fear that will also lead her to start complaining about her crib when she's at home.  When we have to switch, I'll just make sure her room is made safer than it currently is.  I'll probably gate her doorway when we switch.
