I need to wean ASAP too many teeth

My baby has 9 teeth -- 9!  She is EBF but goodness, she bites while nursing.  I have tried breaking the latch and restarting- doesn't worse.  I think she has too many teeth now.  How the Heck do ppl nurse - 2,3,4,5,6 years!  I nursed all my others but for 12 months, 7 months, 9 months, and NEVER remember this.  I think she just has more teeth.  my nipple is all chomped up.  worse than a NB learning!  help me.  Oh and she starts daycare in 2 weeks..

I have to ep because we need to fortify all milk, but many times when I am using a cloth on my finger to brush his teeth and he chomps down, I feel pretty relieved that I can't nurse him anymore. I've screamed out in pain sometimes because of what he does to my finger, which has the cloth wrapped around it. I don't know how my bare nipples would survive.

  • I am in the process of weaning right now because of biting and poor sleep habits (and I feel like I am done). I've been weaning gradually ...stopping a feed every week, though I've heard you could drop a feed every 3 days. I started with the mid morning and then plan on cutting before bed, mid afternoon, noon and middle of the night. 9 teeth is a lot...Henry only has 5 (he bit me yesterday it hurt so bad, I can't even imagine 9).

  • I think I just got lucky. Paula has 6 teeth and I've only been bitten once, when she was just playing, crawling around on me on the bed and pinching my nipple with her fingers and not really eating at all.

Have you tried ending the nursing session as soon as LO bites? A stern "no, no biting, that hurts mommy" and ending the meal often makes the point loud and clear to the baby and it only takes a couple times for them to associate biting with being made to stop nursing. That's what I've read anyway, I really hope to nurse for a few years so I have tried to prepare myself for issues like this if I do encounter them!

  • I think I know what you're talking about. I've not been fighting biting per se but teeth rubbing. I actually have a small bruise where his teeth hit, but just on the right side for some reason. Anyway, I have done the pinch and shove as far in tactic they teach you when just starting out and it seems to have worked. He has gotten sloppy with a shallow latch. Wean if you must but maybe this will help ease the pain until you do.

Then and now. How did my boy get so big?

  • The problem now is mainly I nurse her to bed.. so when I have put her in her crib and stopped the session, she screams bloody murder.  My bedtime routine now is, nurse and rock.  Then when she gets fussy, put her in her bed and she goes to sleep in less than 5 minutes.  Often se doesn't cry at all.  She has been doing so well.  she owns every bottle out there too
