For mobile bumpies title is "how did you know". When you were picking out a name, how did you know it was, "the one"? I still have a lot if time but nothing seems to click so I'm worried I'll never find the perfect name!
For DS1 it just came to us, we agreed, were happy with it and never looked back. Still very happy with our decision and he's 6.5.
With DD it was more difficult, possibly because this time we thought more about it rather than going with our gut. We had a name originally chosen and then second guessed ourselves and added a second choice and then eventually changed back to our original first choice. I'm glad we did.
With DS2 we used the other boy name we loved and it had meaning to us. We had chosen it as the boy name when pg with DD.
We actually had the most difficulty with the middle for DD and DS2.
In both cases it was a total compromise. I don't think either of us LOVED the name, we have such different taste in names, but we narrowed it down to a list of names that we could both live with and liked ok. Now I love both of my children's names, but it was a little rough getting there for DH and I at times!

I know we have a name finalized when no other name compares to it. That's how we felt with DS and that is how we are feeling with the names we have picked out now.
I knew we were settled when we both loved the name and could not imagine anything being better for our little one. It seemed very natural to call the unborn child by name.
With DS we'd had his name picked out before we were even engaged, about 3 years before we got pregnant. DD was a little harder. I wasn't feeling the name we'd originally picked out when we were pregnant the first time. We finally agreed on a name 3 weeks before she was born.
We've had a girl name which is just ineffably "the one" for ages, so of course I was concerned we'd be screwed namewise and have a boy. We'd been through every boy name in creation and nothing seemed right. In the weeks leading up to our ultrasound, we wrote any boy's names that were at least ok to one of us on a whiteboard, and kept it in our living room where we'd have repeated exposure to them.
Of course, ultrasound showed a boy. On our way home, DH suggested we stop by Target to get the movie To Kill a Mockingbird (one of the names on the list that I really liked and he was meh on was Atticus). We watched it that night, and by the end of the week, our son was Atticus. I can't imagine him being anything else!
For a girl I really loved the names Artemis and Aurella, DH liked Artemis but only if we ended up naming all of our kids "badas.s" God names (insert chuckle & eye roll.) Also, I'm Greek, so it's not that out there that I choose that name. One night we were throwing around names with a friend. DH's mother's name is Marlene and I jokingly said "Let's just name her Marlena." However once I said it, I loved it and I never let it go. It just felt right and sounded so beautiful to me. In my whole life I'd never even thought of the name as anything until now. So now we're having our baby girl Marlena in November.
For a future boy... it took us what felt like forever to come up with a boy name. I loved Apollo (back on my Greek kick). DH wanted his name Giancarlo... and I really dislike "Jrs". He liked Apollo but said that could be the second one... so I kept trying to throw in different names, all shot down. DH one said he liked Luca, seriously out of nowhere! Later that day I read the name Gianluca in a magazine and thought it was a perfect combination of a name I liked and he liked. He also loves it. So, if we have a boy next his name will be Gianluca and we really like the sibset Gianluca & Marlena.
With our first, we came to a decision as soon as we found out she was a girl. We compromised since our styles were night and day. At the time, I worried that I wouldn't ever love the name as much as my first choice. But when she was born, she became the name and now I couldn't imagine her as anything else.
With our second, we took a short list to the hospital. We waited two days to be sure before filling out the birth certificate. I've known people who've waited a week or longer to be certain.
We just had our third baby last week. We took a longer list this time around, but as soon as DS was born, DH said, "He's Gavin." And I agreed. Nothing else seemed to come close to fitting him. We gave ourselves another day to pick out the perfect middles. So my short answer would be, don't worry. You can wait to see LO's face before deciding. GL
Nellie I just knew. Really early, like 15 weeks. We kept it secret in case we saw her and changed our minds though.
Norah had a totally different name until we met her and it was just completely wrong! Hubs suggested Eleanor, I said we'd call her Norah and it was done.
We were team green with our other two. For both of them we had a short list of names, but I felt like I knew when I saw them for the first time and DH agreed.
This time we know we are having a girl, but are having a tough time coming up with a short list, nothing is "sticking out" yet.
For each of mine, I found one I liked, made sure it didn't rhyme with anything that could cause excessive teasing, no strange acronyms from the initials, then I yelled it over and over from first to last name like I would when they were in trouble, and if it still sounded good, then it stuck :-)
I was putting way too much pressure on the name and we both decided we loved the name Eloise. I could have looked forever. The only thing I wonder sometimes is if we should have used her MN as her FN but I suppose we could always call her by her MN later if it seems more fitting.

Wheeew that was long, sorry.

ETA: Spelling error
DH hates most boy names, so as soon as I threw one to him he liked, we stopped looking.
For girls, we had 3 we really liked, and decided to go with the one that was less common.
I stopped looking for "the one."
