I have been training for a sprint triathlon that's on July 13th. I just got a BFP this morning so I'll be 5 1/2 weeks pregnant at the triathlon. Have you or anyone you know done a triathlon while pregnant?
Effort wise and cardio wise, you should be fine. I am a triathlete and I was very wary of being on the bike while pregnant. I rode inside on the trainer 99% of the time. The only time I rode outside was on a bike trail where there were no cars and I still felt paranoid.
Do what you and your doctor feel is comfortable. The cycling just made me too paranoid. I stuck to running, swimming and indoor cycling throughout my pregnancy. It just seemed like there was too much that could go wrong that wasn't in your control on a bike on the road.
This early in the pregnancy, the only significant difference you MIGHT feel will be a bit more fatigue. You've been training for it, so it's something your body is used to. You can call and talk to an OB about it, but you should be fine! Obviously, you want to be careful with regard to hydration, but that's something you're quite aware of if you've been training already! Kerry Walsh Jennings was pregnant during the London Olympics last fall, and she was throwing herself all over the sand volleyball court. That's encouraging! Have fun!
Do it! I did 2 Olympic distance triathlons and a half marathon in my first and second trimesters. I was tired so I didn't focus on my times, just finishing. It was great and now I can say my daughter has already done two triathlons and a half marathon. Just be sure to stay well hydrated during the training and the race. **Side note** I really wanted to get a shirt made that said, "Tri'ing for two" with little baby footprints on it. Enjoy and good luck!
I did a long-ish sprint last weekend at 5w3d. Caveat is that I didn't actually *know* I was pregnant yet. I'm considering a duathlon in August. I'm mostly worried about what would happen if I crash my bike.
