Adoption

What to pack for local trip?

HI folks,

 I'm sure this has been asked-- what do we bring to the hospital? We are actually not adopting from out of state- we're in the same city--- but given tolls and traffic we are planning on staying in the same borough as the emom during her labor/hospital stay rather  than driving back and forth to our home daily--- what do we need to have for the baby? Anything? Or should we just figure that if placement happens, all the babies needs in hospital will have been taken care of and we just will be able to bring him home?

    Here is my suggestions:

    For you guys: a backpack for you and your spouse to bring to the hospital if you will be with the EM or in the waiting room. Put light snacks, water, a few basic toiletries, and perhaps a change of clothes for a long labor. Also your camera, a phone charger, a pen for signing things, and any paperwork your agency requires you to have.

    For baby: Car seat (although, wait to bring this in until you are ready to leave). A going home outfit if you'd like, if you have a special blanket for pictures, etc. The hospital will give you diapers, formula, wipes, etc. during the babies stay and usually enough to get you home.

    I'm over the moon excited for you!! Please keep us updated!!!

    to ask if you can take the leftover supplies from the hospital cart. nbsp;They let us take mostly everything.nbsp;

    Especially the bulb syringe/snot Sucker. The ones you buy in the store are nowhere near as good as the ones from the hospital!
    ***************************** Our beautiful daughter was born in October 2009. Turns out she was quite the miracle. After two years of TTC, diagnosed with DOR. A couple of failed treatment cycles later, we decided to let go of our hope for more biological children and explore adoption.
  • We were in state, about an hour away. We stayed between the hospital and a hotel.

    I would recommend taking more than you think you'll need if going home is not an option. DD ended up being in the NICU for a few days, which was a surprise as she was full time and no issues were brought up prior to birth. We ran out of clothes :)

    i agree with snacks and drinks. And cash, sometimes you can only catch a vending machine.

    camera, phone, chargers, sweatshirt (hospital can be cold and DH had to buy one for me), I took a notebook (I wrote down times things occurred and staff names, what the doctors reported to us, visitors, gifts, etc), things to do (books, puzzle books, card games, etc), Tylenol (I cried a lot, both happy and sad, pounding headache ensued).

    I became a mother because of adoption. She is the absolute love of my life. Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker formerly known as sw_in_kc
