Holidays and Being Out Late w/ DC

What are everyone's plans for being out late, during naps, etc...?  Carson has never really been away from home for bedtime (except for trips to the beach, etc..) and I'm wondering how he'll handle being out late on Christmas Eve, away from home during nap time on Christmas Day.  What are your plans for tackling this?

He's a pretty easy going kid, so I'm sure I'm worrying for nothing.  I guess we'll just bring the PNP and see how it goes!

  • We'll be at our family restaurant, so I think we're going to try to take the pack n play and see if he'll sleep in it. If not we'll just make it an early night.

  • He is usually good for naps as long as I have a place to lay him down so I will bring pack n play. We will be at my mom's on Christmas Day so he is use to sleeping there.

  • We won't be out late but we will be away from home for most of the day. I'm taking the Pnp and hoping that she'll nap in it.

  • We've never been out late.  However, we were away from home for Thanksgiving, and DS didn't nap or sleep very well.  He found the new surroundings very scary, even when in his familiar PNP.  He got slightly more comfortable when we put the PNP in an area that was rather enclosed--in the corner next to the guest bed and the wall.  That way, there was much less stimulation and it was a little cozier for him.
  • DD won't sleep unless she's in her crib at home or at daycare or riding in the car. She won't even sleep in her own PnP. We're making our Christmas parties early nights to get her home by 7 or 8pm.

  • Our plans aren't final yet, but I know we'll be at my parents' house Christmas night.  We'll go over after DS's nap.  His bedtime is pretty late right now (9:30ish) and I had been trying to bump it up earlier, but I might wait until after the holidays.
  • If you use a baby carrier, you can always have him nap on you, I do that when we're not at home and he's tired. He's slept on various floors (with blankets under him and pillows to block him from rolling) at our relatives' houses, and been fine also.

If we're at home, DS is out for the night and doesn't wake up to play or anything, but if we're at someone's house and he wakes up and doesn't seem like he wants to go back to sleep right away, we just bring him out so he can play. He goes back to sleep eventually and is never too fussy the next day or anything. I figure since it's not a usual thing, he'll be fine.

I think he naps less when we're somewhere new, bc he's so busy exploring and checking out the new surroundings. Usually DH has a whole bedtime routine he does with DS, but when we travel, I just nurse him to sleep bc it's faster and easier. hth
