spotting/first appointment

Hello ladies. On the fourth I started spotting..went from brown to red and back to brown. No real cramping. Spoke to on call doctor and he said to take it easy since my appointment was the next day. Friday was my first appointment. I had an ultrasound. Babys heart beat was there but it wasn't clear enough to get good measurements. I was sent to the hospital for a better picture and to obtain measurements. The NP wasn't sure if the baby was smaller than should be or if I was just off when how far along I thought I was. (8 weeks )

After an U/S at the hospital the babys HR was 183 and measuring 7wks 3days. So the baby was measuring great. I am still having spotting but was told it should go away and can be normal.

I am very happy with how the baby looks but the spotting is nerve racking. I am constantly going to the bathroom to check. I hope it goes away soon. blah.

Hope everyone is doing well and having a good weekend.

  • I've had spotting too. I'm 6wk2d. Went to doc too and they said it was normal. You just don't feel like it because its new for you... I wish you good luck. Your u/s stats sound fantastic!

  • I had spotting also. It made me a wreck! But seeing baby made me calm down a bit. I was exactly 7 weeks when it started and it was red followed by brown. It lasted for 3 days. My OB said that some women will experience spotting from the placenta implanting and it happens around this time. She said the placenta picks a spot in the uterus wall to implant into and sometimes it changes its mind and picks another spot. This results in spotting because there is an open wound from the spot it first picked.
I stayed in bed as much as I could when I was spotting. And it eventually stopped. Good luck and keep calm
  • Spotting is so scary! I know that once you see a strong heartbeat though the risk of mc goes WAY down. Hopefully it will stop soon and you can relax. It sounds like your baby is doing great though!

  • Thank you ladies. Your kind words really help. I feel like crying now. haha. It's a little red now but still only spotty. Otherwise I feel okay..

    thanks again. xo

  • As my OB said "We can put a man on the moon but we can't always explain first trimester bleeding" There are so many women who experience this and have perfect pregnancies and babies. I have a friend who had spotting for four weeks straight during her first trimester and now has the cutest little girl. Just take it easy and do whatever you need to do to take care of yourself and little peanut!
  • I had spotting at 6 weeks 3 days. I'm now 10 weeks tomorrow. If its not accompanied by bad cramping or enough bleeding to soak a pad I was told it was normal.
  • I've had spotting too. U/S showed a healthy heartbeat and measuring right on track. So now I just ignore the spotting unless it gets bad and I'm staying on pelvic rest.
