Sleeping question

Please tell me how you get your babies to nap and bedtime. My guys are now ten months. One takes bottle and the other nurses. They are not in their cribs yet. I need them in their cribs! What happens to me is I bottle feed first and get him to sleep, then I nurse the other one. BUT, the first one wakes within twenty to forty minutes, needing to burp. So I need to put the one nursing who is almost asleep down and then he wakes. So then I have to rock the first one, and then tend to the second all over. Help! I am exhausted! And so are boys!!

Re: Sleeping question

  • My boys did pretty much this same thing. I read parts of the book "healthy sleep habits, happy child". I would recommend getting it, or googling the basic topics in it.
For my boys, we would bottle feed them till they were just about to sleep, lay them down, tuck them in turn off the light, close the door and let them do what ever for 10 min. After that, go In comfort them, burp, more bottle ect, lay them down, leave. We retreated the process as many times As needed.
Do you have a bed time routine? We used bath bottle bed.
So pretty much, we let them cry a bit, calmed them down and off to bed. If you let them cry too much, or at all really, they get so wound up and won't easily calm down. Basically what you are teaching them is how to self sooth.
I sleep my boys apart just so they won't wake one another up. Bit all twins are different.

  • Have you tried feeding them at the same time? I have one that nurses better and one that bottle feeds so I have a boppy on the side I am not nursing and feed them together whenever possible. This helps. I also started a routine very early on at nightlow lights bath pjs bottle cuddles bed. They became used to this one very quickly. I tried to just lay them in there almost asleep so they can put themselves to sleep and it took a bit but they got used to it. We have hiccups evey once in a while but a routine helps. This helped carry over to nap as well then. We are still working out a schedule for the day. But just put them in their cribs and tough it out for a bit they will get used to it and then everyone can sleep hopefully. Good luck
  • Can you burp your bottle feeder before putting him down?  Then nurse the other one, burp, and put down?

Or tandem feed and burp whoever finishes 1st with the goal of putting them down together?
