I wanted to set up a PNP to use as a changing station for the main floor of our house (we will also use it for other uses as they come up I'm sure). I see conflicting views on here about whether the changing stations on PNPs are practical for very long. Can you let me know what kind of PNP you have and whether you found the changer was good or not?
We were trying to decide between the graco model with reversible napper/changer or a Maxi Cosi with an elevated changer. TIA!
Re: S/O PNP with changers
I have the Chicco PNP with changer. I don't like it because it's too low and changing the baby there hurts my back. I am 5'7'' so I'm not super tall. The PNPs with the elevated changer are nice but they tend to have a low weight limit so you can't use them very long. What I would do is get a changing table off Craigslist for like $30 and then just have a basic PNP without all the bells and whistles.
We bought a changing table for our main room because our kids bedrooms are upstairs and it's awesome. I really like having storage underneath too because I keep extra diapers, DD's shoes and jackets and our diaper in there ready to go. I personally like it way better than having the PNP set up in there all the time without a place to store stuff.
Many of the Graco changers that hang over the bassinet portion are the ones that tend to slump and get in the way. We ended up with a Safety 1st Premier playard where the changer is actually a lot more stable and attaches to one side. It's only rated to 15 lbs though like many PnP with basinettes and changers, which is about 2-3 months for your average baby. We've used it beyond that period with no issues, but the manufacturer sets those limits for wide safety margins and reduced liability.
I recommend you investigate the models you are interested in the store, figure out their recommended weight limits and see how stable they are .
