Pregnant after 35

How long did it take?

Hi all We are going to start TTC next month. Our first took much longer than we expected. I ended up with a BFP a month after an HSG. Just curious if anyone had a similar experience or how long it took in general. I am 36 now.

Re: How long did it take?

  • Baby two took almost two years. I had IVF and a frozen cycle. Best of luck!

  • It took us a year and a half. I was diagnosed with a prolactinoma benign tumor on the brain which caused my body toproduce more prolactin and keep me from ovulating so I had to go on meds. I'm about to turn 36 on July 27th and I am a little over 5 weeks preggo with our first.

  • I am 35.  My first pregnancy, which ended in m/c unfortunately, took about 4 months.  I'm currently 8 weeks and that took 3 months.
  • It took about 18 months but I was on Depo Provera for birth control which can take 6 pls months to get out of the system.

  • It was 8 months of trying for the first (failed) pregnancy; 10 months for this one.  I'm 43 and the only assistance we had was acupuncture for me.

  • For this pregnancy, the only one that has stuck, it took3 months. But that was after surgery for endo and a d and c followed by one month on BCP, so I guess 2 months of rigorous trying to conceive. We honestly didn't think it would happen. We started TTC in Feb 2009, but that's a longer complicated failure of a story so I won't get into that.
    Baby #1 due 2/10/14!
  • It took us a 1 year and 5 months.  We saw a RE after 6 months of trying without success - and then it took us another 9 months.  Like you we had a BFP right after our HSG but then had a m/c.  We had 5 failed IUIs and got our BFP with IVF in May.

Since you saw an RE for your first, I would go straight to your RE for this one.  If you wait 6 months and nothing, you'll go to your RE and he/she will probably do an HSG/other testing.  May want to skip the wait and go now.

    Good luck!

Me: 37 DH: 37 TTC since Jan 2012. RE consult and initial testing done in Aug 2012: SA fine, AMH 1.1 & HSG clear - on way to IUI but got BFP on 9/10/2012. m/c 10/3/2012 at 6w5d. BFP next cycle which was a c/p. IUI #1: Clomid 100mg 12/6= BFN. IUI#2 (unmedicated) Jan 2013 = BFN. Hysteroscopy 1/25/13. IUI#3 Clomid 100mg 2/23 = BFN IUI# 4: BFN. IVF #1 April 2013, BFP!  EDD 1/12/14 with Boy!
  • I was 34 when I got pregnant and it took us alittle over a year.  My ob had suggested going to a Fertility specialist after it had been a year.  But then we suddenly got pregnant on our own.

  • I was 36 when I began TTC and we got PG first cycle. However, I had many difficulties in the past(see siggy) with my ex husband. My advice is to track your cycles, looking for signs of ovulation. GL! Hope it happens quickly!

A little over a year.  We tried for 4 - 5 months naturally, did a month with clomid and IUI where I got pregnant, but had a missed MC, did IVF that summer with a FET after PGD that failed and then ended up conceiving naturally the next cycle after that.  Good luck!

  • I got pregnant taking BCP with baby #1 when I was 24. She's now 11.

It took almost 2 years of TTC with baby #2. I finally got pregnant without any medical help. She is now 17 months old.

I quit taking my BCP February 12 and had my last period March 7, so this baby was conceived really quickly, which surprised me.

Nearly 3 years (about 30 cycles, or 32 months). I was 37 by the time we conceived.

We waited 2 years to seek treatment at an RE and completed 1 TI, 1 IUI, and had a cancelled IUI cycle. We took a break and conceived that cycle.

AMA & SAIF. TTC #1 since Oct. 2010. DX: Unexplained. BFP on break after 32 months trying and 2 med cycles. Baby girl born at 40w0d!

  • 3 years. Year one was spent trying on our own and Femara. Year two was more Femara and then a few IUIs. Year three was a lot of IUIs. Finally, at our three year anniversary, we did IVF and were successful. I am currently 24 weeks with twins.

Right after we got married over 2 years ago we got pregnant right away (Married in March and pregnant in April). That pregnancy sadly ended in a MC.  We then got pregnant again right away with my DD who is now 17 months old.  Once she was born and I got my first Post Partum Period we began trying for #2 because I am 39 and hubby is 43 we didn't feel we had the option of time.  It took over 6 months of trying.  I was breastfeeding and it really messed with my hormones.  I went to my RE and had an HSG done and right after got my BFP.  I am due with #2 in November.

    Good Luck!!!

  • I'm 35. 10 years ago it took 2-3 cycles, which ended in a miscarriage. Then we tried again for 4-5 months and stopped. That marriage ended. This time I got my iud out a couple months after getting married and was pregnant before I even had a full cycle. I was pretty surprised. I had mentally prepared to adopt.
  • 9 months- then ended in m/c

6 months- same month as HSG got PG with son- now 4 years old. I was 33

1 month- this pregnancy- I am 37- go figure

  • I had an HSG as we were beginning to TTC with my 1st because I had a vaginal septum that my OB wanted to ensure wasn't causing other issues in my uterus. I got pregnant right afterwards.  I was worried that I'd have issues this time (turned 35 in June) but got pregnant on my second cycle trying. Good luck!

    BFP #1- 4/2011; DD Brynn born 12/2011

BFP #2- 7/13; EDD- 4/2/14; Lost DS at 20 weeks (11/16/13) due to cord accident

BFP #3- 3/14; EDD- 11/28/14; Lost DD at 15 weeks (6/7/14)- cause unknown

To my angels- I held you every second of your lives and I'll love you every second of mine.

  • Got pregnant the first cycle after stopping birth control at age 34.
Got pregnant first try at age 38 with this one.

Thankful for how smoothly things have gone.  I realize that if we weren't using birth control that we would have six kids by now.  :)

  • I'm 37, took 3 years. 2 years trying to go it alone because we moved from the UK to the USA and so had to start all the fertility discussions again. 5 months of Clomid and nothing. Was scheduled for HSG last month and for a BFP just before. Husbands SA is fine so my RE said my ovaries just needed to be threatened to kick start. Was on birth control pill for 19 years before that. Good luck! You'll see that from all the posts on this that we are all different, so don't worry and see an RE when you feel ready.

  • Two years. After one and a half years we had tests done and I was told I had a less than 5% chance of conceiving on my own. So then we did acupuncture and I was pregnant within five months.

  • Took way longer for this second one, 18 mo. I was just about to get some testing done when I decided to try acupuncture, we just got our BFP with only 1 month of acupuncture!!! Should have done this long time ago! I'm going to continue with weekly appts. w/my AP through the first tri and then twice a month the rest of the pregnancy :)
  • 3 cycles with DS I was 30. #2 it took us 12 cycles I was 34/35 during that year. We did IF testing I was totally fine but found out I had bacteria vaginosis after TTC for 9 cycles. DH was diagnosed with .5% morphology. It took two months of treating the BV and yeast infections that followed and treating DH with BV. Next cycle after clearing up the infections we got our BFP. If we didn't get our BFP after one more cycle we were going to do IUI.

  • It took us 1 year of trying with 1 chemical pregnancy, HSG test and 1 round of clomid.  Got cysts from the clomid and was benched a cycle.  Got pregnant the next cycle without clomid, but did use progesterone.

  • At 33 it took 1 month and at 36 it took us 2 months.
  • I am 40 and it took one month of trying. I used an over the counter ovulation predictor test: clear blue.
  • First time we said, what the heck we aren't getting any younger.... We were not really expecting it to be so quick, most people try for a while.
  • It took us three cycles with each.

  • #1 - I started at 29 and I conceived after 8 months of trying and 30 yrs old

#2 - Just conceived after 3 years of trying and I just turned 35. After lots of testing on both parts, it turned out to be my DH needed to eat healthy and lower stress.

If we go for #3, I'm not waiting for the next milestone birthday ;)

  • I'm 35 and it took one year (which was only 7 cycles due to PCOS). I got pregnant a few cycles after I had the HSG test :)
