Another crib thread...small cribs?

The Ikea crib thread inspired me. Also its Friday after fourth of july and I am bored to tears at work.

We live in an urban area in a condo, and we are planning on getting an "apartment sized" crib. We were going to get the Stokke but with 2 that would be outrageously expensive. Now looking at other options, which will HAVE to be small with needing 2 in the same room! :S

Anyone else in an urban area and getting a smaller crib? Any cute ones out there? Especially helpful stms who did this!

  • I am not a mom yet but have you looked at Davinci Kalani Mini Crib yet. We were considering it before we moved.

  • We used a moses basket for DD for the first 4ish months in our room and that worked out really well. But, it's only for a short time. We'll be looking into mini-cribs too in case DD isn't ready to transition into a toddler bed once new LO is out of the moses basket. The Kalani is cute, I also like the DaVinci Annabelle since it's a similar style to our full size crib.

  • Have you looked at ikea? I believe their cribs are smaller and contemporary.

  • I've been looking at the smaller cribs too and I'd love some insight from moms who have used them.

My ? is: if I'm planning to use the rock and play as a bassinet and our LO won't be in the crib until 3-4 months, is it work just spending the $ and getting a "regular" sized crib instead of the mini-crib? Will LO grow out of the mini crib too quickly? We're short on space too but I'd rather buy one crib instead of a mini-crib then a "regular" crib later down the road...

(Sorry for hijacking this thread with my question, I just didn't want to start a third crib thread lol)

  • cpm, I am curious on that question as well - we are thinking of getting a pack n play twin sleeper, so not sure whether that will work for a few months anyway, or should we go with the mini crib from the get go?  (I dont think two regular sized cribs will ever fit into the kids room that we have now, even one would dwarf the space!)

My main concern with the target mini cribs is that they are not rated like regular cribs. I think the Da Vinci is one of the only tested and rated mini cribs, though I am trying to do more research on that.  Also, its my understanding that the da vinci turns into a twin sized bed - what size does a regular crib turn in to?
