Signs of PTing readiness?

LO will tell us when he goes poop/pee and asks for diaper change. Poop is regular/similar time each day.

He will sit on toilet from time to time, but never long enough to do anything.

If in underpants/naked, he can hold his pee up to 3-4hrs depending on how much he's had to drink. Doesn't pee during naps, and has even waken up from nighttime dry on occasion.

He knows words for pee/poop/potty and can take his pants off/on (although he often needs help getting them totally up).

My H says oh he's so young, he's not even two. But IMO he's showing signs and eager to stay clean. I want to jump on it if he's ready.

What do you BTDT ladies think?

  • Go for it! If he's not ready, try again in a few weeks.

  • If he's ready to go, then go! I dont think it matters what age the kiddo is; if they're showing signs, jump on it. I have a friend whose LO is under two and shows the same signs as your LO. Her LO is on day 5 of PT and doing fantastically.

  • My little man is two and a half years old and is fully potty trained, he has been since he was 2. We actually started him at about a year and a half because he was interested in the potty and sitting on it. He didn't like to be wet either. Pooping took a little longer but he caught on pretty fast. I would say if you think he is ready, try it.
  • My son started at about your son's age. By the time he turned 2, he was waking up dry from every nap and every morning. I went straight to undies, and although at 2.5 he still has some accidents, he is about 90% on the potty. He tells me when he has to go, but needs help getting on. Go for it! If it doesn't work out, try again in a few months.
  • He sounds ready, so go for it! He's not too young. Our DD just turned 2 and she wears either pull ups or underwear all the time. I can't remember the last time she dirtied either one during the day. And at night, she almost always wakes up dry.
